Gene Starwind
Gene's the main character. He likes shooting stuff, and he has his own business, called Starwind and Hawking. Gene is the captain of the Outlaw Star. He likes drinking, and women. Gene's house is a wreck, and he acts like your average 20 year old guy. He has a bad space phobia, which is caused by a bad experience as a child.
Jim Hawking
He's Gene's partner in business, and also is one of the crew members on the Outlaw Star. He's a pretty good mechanic. In the Japanese versions, he refers to Gene as "aniki", which means brother or mentor, but they translate it as simply Gene. He has a way out wierd attraction to his car, which he names "Ehefrau", which is German for wife. He also sees Melfina as a mother figure.
Suzuka
She's an assasin. She uses a wooden sword, which can't be detected by metal detectors and stuff like that. This sword can still cut through many objects. She can almost beat Gene with it, and Gene has a gun!!! She wears Japanese-ish clothes, and tries to maintain a very cold mood.
Aisha Clanclan
Once the Ambassador Plenipotentiary of the Ctarl-Ctarl, which is a powerful cat race. She is very strong, and can nearly defeat the outlaw crew all put together Also, she can transform into a powerful beast creature. She has a major grudge against the outlaw crew, and even though she's broke, tries to track them down. Later in Hayfong, durring the per race party, she finds Gene once again. She enters the race in attempt to destroy him. By sending out a fake distress signal, she gets on the Outlaw Star. Basically from then she is a crew member, and is obsessed with the Galactic Layline.
Hilda
She's the outlaw that got Gene and Jim into the space mess. She disguised herself as Rachel, and got Gene and Jim to transport her to the farm where they got Melfina. She took them to the ship that would later be called Outlaw Star, and she dies along with killing the creepy ying yang girl.
Gilliam
Gilliam is the computer of Outlaw Star. It's not impressed with Gene's piloting skills, and makes comments about them, which annoys Gene. The Outlaw Star has little things that are the size of cans of sodas that go around on tracks talking to crew members, giving advice, and other stuff that might be unusual for a computer. Gilliam is the most cynical of the group.
Fred Luo
Fred is basically a gay merchant that is able to get illegal guns and what-not. He has a crush on Gene and is excited for Jim to grow up. He's a coward, and is a shrewd businessman that doesn't let the fact that someone saved his life or someone he's in love with get in the way of business. Gene ends up owing a huge debt to him, so Fred makes him do certain things, like wrestling a super strong women, to keep her from getting married to him, or keeping a deadly assassin from killing him. He may be queer, but he's an important member of the series.
The MacDougall Brothers
The MacDougall brothers are well known for haveing no enemies across the vast space. This is beacause all of the people who figure out what these two are up to, mysteriously dissapear. These two are a very dangerous pair and they will do anything for a few bucks. It's often unclear where they stand. The two brothers will work often with the pirates, but will be more than willing to double cross them if someone offers a few more bucks. Hilda puts it best "when it comes to outlaws, like everything else, there are good ones and there are sour ones." With these two it's best to always consider them your enemy.
