Appointed regimental quartermaster Sergeant 4 Oct 1862.  Paroled as noncommissioned officer on staff of Marmaduke's MO Cavalry Brigade at Shreveport, LA 7 Jun 1865.  Residence: Pemiscot County.

MACKEY, MARTIN W.: Age:? Enlisted as Private in Co I 15 Aug 1863 at location not of record.  Present Dec 1863.  (No Further Record).

MANESS, JAMES D.: Age: 24. Enlisted as Private in Co C 4 Aug 1862 in Wayne County.  Deserted 30 Sep 1862.

MANSFIELD, JOHN: Age: 27. Enlisted as Private in Co E 18 Aug 1862 in Mississippi County.  Horse appraised at $75 and horse equipment at $4. He was left sick near Hartville, MO 10 Jan 1863.  Taken prisoner and transferred to Alton, IL military prison where he died 4 Apr 1863.  He is buried in the Confederate Cemetery at Alton.

MARKET, C. A.: No service record.  Appears on a membership list of the Captain. S. S. Harris Camp, United Confederate Veterans, at Jackson, MO in 1896, and is listed as a former member of Co F.

MARKET, ERASTUS C. “RAS”: Age: 19. Enlisted as Private in Co F 27 Sep 1862 in Cape Girardeau County.  Horse appraised at $95 and horse equipment at $5.  Mar\Apr bi-monthly report states that he deserted while on a scout, but provides no specific date.

MARSHALL, ISAAC NEWTON: No enlistment data.  Paroled as Private, Co G, at Shreveport, LA on 7 Jun 1865.  Residence: Wayne County.

MARSHALL, WILLIAM C.: Age: 30. Enlisted as Private in Co D 22 Sep 1862 in Cape Girardeau County.  Horse appraised at $150 and horse equipment at $15.  Paroled at Shreveport, LA 7 Jun 1865.  Residence: Cape Girardeau County.

MARTIN, ANDREW J.: Age: 28. Enlisted as Private in Co E 16 Aug 1862 in Mississippi County.  Horse appraised at $175 and horse equipment at $5.  Present Dec 1863.  (No Further Record). Died 13 Jan 1864 and buried at Byrd Cemetery, Cape Girardeau Co, MO.

MARTIN, JAMES SILAS: Age: 18. Enlisted as Private in Co D 22 Sep 1862 in Cape Girardeau County.  Horse appraised at $100 and horse equipment at $15.  Transferred to Co F 2 Oct 1862.  "Detached with Infantry, August 1, 1863."  Reported as present with Co F Dec 1863.  Paroled at Shreveport, LA, 7 Jun 1865. Residence: Cape Girardeau County. He was a charter member of the Captain S. S. Harris Camp, United Confederate Veterans, at Jackson, MO in 1896.   Died 6 Feb 1910 and buried at Apple Creek Cemetery, Cape Girardeau Co, MO.

MARTIN, JOHN E.: Age: 22. Enlisted as Private in Co A 12 Oct 1862 in Bollinger County.  Deserted 29 Dec 1862.

MARTIN, JOHN L.: Age:? Assistant Surgeon. No record exists of his service in regiment. Tried before a military commission in the Department of Missouri at St. Louis, MO, for violation of the laws of war.  He was acquitted for his only “crime” had been serving as an assistant surgeon in the regiment from January until April 1864.  He had voluntarily surrendered on 12 Apr 1864 by entering Union lines. Residence: Poinsett County, AR.

MARTIN, JOSEPH F.: Age: 16. Enlisted as Private in Co E 20 Sep 1862 in Mississippi County.  Horse appraised at $100 and horse equipment at $10.  Detailed as tailor 11 Feb 1864. Took oath of allegiance to U. S. at Memphis, TN 23 Mar 1865. At surrender he was described as fair complexion, brown hair, black eyes and 5’ 7” in height.  A biography is in Goodspeed’s History of Southeast Missouri, pp. 989-990.  He died February 16, 1902, and his obituary and a photo appear in the Confederate Veteran, Vol. X (1902), p. 323.

MARTIN, MOSES F.: Age: 24. Enlisted as Private in Co C 20 Aug 1862 in Wayne County.  Horse appraised at $75 and horse equipment at $5.  Died at hospital at Batesville, AR 25 Mar 1863 of cause not of record.

MARTIN, WILLIAM F.: (Served in Missouri State Guard as Private, 3rd Infantry Regiment, 1st Division) Age: ? Enlisted as Private in Co C 13 Mar 1863 in Wayne County.  Transferred to dismounted cavalry 26 Jul 1863.  (No Further Record).

MASON, ZEDOC M.: (Served in Missouri State Guard as Private, 1st Cavalry Regiment, 1st Division) Age: 32. Enlisted as Private in Co E 1 Sep 1862 in Mississippi County.  Appears on a list of prisoners, dated 17 Feb 1865, at Memphis, TN and annotated "Deserters from the Rebel Army."

MASSEY, JOSEPH D.: Age: 19. Enlisted as Private in Co C 7 Oct 1862 in Wayne County.  Horse appraised at $75 and horse equipment at $5.  Transferred to dismounted cavalry 26 Jul 1863.  (No Further Record).  According to Goodspeed's History of Southeast Missouri, p. 782, he was wounded in action at Bloomfield, MO, although no date is provided.  He was probably wounded 11 Sept 62.  Also, the same source indicates he transferred to Pratt's Texas Battery in 1864. However, he was paroled as a member of the 4th MO Field Artillery (Harris’ Battery) at Grand Ecore, LA, 6 Jun 1865.  The notation probably means Pratt’s Texas Artillery Battalion, as Harris’ MO Battery was assigned to that unit.

MASSEY, NATHANIEL: Age: 22. Enlisted as Private in Co E 1 Sep 1862 in Mississippi County.  Deserted 12 Nov 1862.

MASTERSON, DAVID C.: (Served in Missouri State Guard as Private, 2nd Cavalry Regiment, 1st Division) Age: 30. Enlisted as Private in Co D 22 Sep 1862 in Cape Girardeau County.  Transferred to Co K 6 Dec 1862.  Transferred to dismounted cavalry 26 Jul 1863.  (No Further Record).  Brother of William C. MASTERSON, ROBERT P.: Age: 40. Died 12 March 1879 and is buried in Apple Creek Cemetery, Cape Girardeau Co., MO.

MASTERSON, SAMUEL L.: Age: 24. Enlisted as Private in Co D 22 Sep 1862 in Cape Girardeau County.  Elected 2nd Lieutenant 26 Sep 1862.  Promoted to 1st Lieutenant 6 Dec 1862.  Taken prisoner in Cape Girardeau Co, MO 2 or 27 Oct 1862.  Described as dark complexion, dark hair and brown eyes. Exchanged 3 Apr 1863. Granted leave of absence of eight days effective 26 Dec 1863.  (No Further Record). Buried Masterson Cemetery, Cape Girardeau Co, MO.

MASTERSON, WILLIAM: Age: 45.  Enlisted as Private in Co D 22 Sep 1862 in Cape Girardeau County.  Absent on sick furlough of 60 days from 15 Nov 1862.  Never returned from sick leave.  Died 1 Feb 1888 and is buried in the Hoyer Cemetery, Cape Girardeau County, MO.

MASTERSON, WILLIAM C. (F.?): (Served in Missouri State Guard as Private, 2nd Cavalry Regiment, 1st Division) Age: 25. Enlisted as Private in Co D 22 Sep 1862 in Cape Girardeau County.  Appointed 1st Corporal 26 Sep 1862.  Transferred to Co K and Appointed 2nd Corporal 6 Dec 1862.  Present Aug 1863. Paroled at Wittsburg, AR 25 May 1865.  A brother of David C. Masterson. Residence: Cape Girardeau Co., MO.

MATTHEWS, ADAM: Appears in the records as a Private, Co I, who surrendered at New Madrid on 26 Nov 1864 and was released on oath of allegiance at that place the same day.

MATTHEWS, EDWARD: Appears in the records as a Private, Co H, who surrendered at New Madrid on 28 Nov 1864 and was released on oath of allegiance and bond of $2000.

MATTHEWS, JOHN MARSHALL: Age: 22. Enlisted as Private in Co B 15 Aug 1862 in Cape Girardeau County.  Horse appraised at $125 and horse equipment at $15. Present Dec 1863.  He surrendered at New Madrid on 30 Nov 1864 and was released on oath the same day.  His pension application is on file at the MO State Archives, Jefferson City, MO. It indicates that he was wounded in action at Boonville, MO, in (likely the 11th) Oct 1864, resulting in the amputation of his right arm. Died 26 Jun 1921 and is buried in the McGee Chapel Cemetery, Bollinger County, MO.

MATTHEWS, REUBEN: Age:? His enlistment data is not of record.  Paroled as Private, Co F, at Shreveport, LA 7 Jun 1865.  Residence: Cape Girardeau County.

MATTHEWS, SAMUEL: Age: 44. McGUIRE, CHARLES: (Served in Missouri State Guard as Private, 1st Infantry Battalion, 1st Division) Age: 22. Enlisted as Private in Co B 15 Aug 1862 in Cape Girardeau County.  Transferred to Co D 5 Oct 1862.  Appears on roster of Co F 12 Dec 1862.  Deserted 15 Dec 1862.  However, according to Eakin, Missouri Prisoners of War, he was captured in Cape Girardeau Co, MO 12 Dec 1862, and exchanged at City Point, VA at a date not of record.  Died in 1923 and is buried in McGuire Cemetery, Cape Girardeau County, MO.

McGUIRE, GEORGE WASHINGTON: Age: 24. Enlisted as Private in Co B 15 Aug 1862 in Cape Girardeau County.  Taken prisoner of war 20 Oct 1862 in Cape Girardeau County, MO, while on a scout.  Exchanged at City Point, VA, at date not of record.  Transferred to dismounted cavalry 1 Aug 1863.  Returned to command.  Taken prisoner of was on s scout 3 Nov 1864 in Conway Co, AR.  Released from Alton, IL military prison for exchange 17 Feb 1865.  Paroled at Meridian, MS 11 May 1865 with detached men.

McGUIRE, LORENZO W.: Age: ? Enlisted as Private in Co F 5 Jun 1863 in Cape Girardeau County. Captured at Little Rock, AR 10 Sep 1863.  Released upon taking oath of allegiance from Camp Morton, IN 20 Feb 1865. Residence: Cape Girardeau County.

McGUIRE, WILLIAM RANIE: Age: 26. Enlisted as Private in Co F 27 Sep 1862 in Cape Girardeau County.  Horse appraised at $140 and horse equipment at $20.  Sent to dismounted cavalry July 1863. Reported as remounted and ready to return to command 23 Aug 1863. Taken as prisoner of war in Conway Co, AR 3 Nov 1864.  Initially incarcerated at the military prison at Little Rock. AR. He then transferred to Alton, IL, prison, and from Alton to Rock Island, IL, and then to Point Lookout, MD for exchange.  Exchanged 13 Mar 1865.  After exchange, he was one of over sixty men placed under the charge of Lt. Robert H. Stockton, 2nd MO Infantry Regt, who was to escort them from Richmond, VA to the 1st MO Brigade at Mobile, AL.  The contingent of former prisoners left Richmond by rail on or about 24 March 1865, but after the first fifty miles the trains ceased running and the group was forced to proceed on foot.  They reached Eufaula, AL on 12 Apr.  Lt. Stockton learned of the surrender of Gen. Robert E. Lee at that point and released the men to go where they wished. See Confederate Veteran, 12 (1904), pp. 380-381. Paroled at Wittsburg, AR 25 May 1865.  Described at age 28, blue eyes, light hair, light complexion, 5’ 10” in height, at time of parole.  His petition for amnesty may be found in Bartels, Missouri Amnesty, while his pension application is on file with the Texas State Archives, Austin, TX.  He died in Chico, Wise County, TX, 8 Apr 1910, and is buried in the Chico Cemetery.  Residence: Cape Girardeau County.

McINTOSH, ALEXANDER: Age: 38. Enlisted as Private in Co I 17 Aug 1862.  (No Further Record).  Subsequently enlisted in Co B, 7 Mo Cavalry Regiment 18 Oct 1862.

McKINNEY, THOMAS LEWIS: (Served in Missouri State Guard as Private, 1st Infantry Battalion, 1st Division) Age: 22. Enlisted as Private in Co K 12 Aug 1862 in Cape Girardeau County.  Horse appraised at $100 and horse equipment at $15.  Elected 2nd Lieutenant 6 Dec 1862.  Wounded in action (left arm shot off) at Pine Bluff, AR 25 Oct 1863.  Exchanged at Red River Landing, LA 26 Feb 1865. Captured at date and place not of record.  Died of typhus and malarial fever at Alton, IL military prison 12 Dec 1863.

Residence: Cape Girardeau County.  Died 2 Sep 1927 in Calhoun Co, AR, and is buried in Oak Grove Cemetery in the county.  Brother of Francis Marion and Henry Harrison McManus.

Enlisted as Private in Co F 27 Sep 1862 in Cape Girardeau County.  Horse appraised at $75 and horse equipment at $6.  Detailed as herdsman in the Commissary Department 15 Aug 1863. Detailed to 2nd Squadron, Hulett’s Missouri Cavalry Battalion at date not of record.  Paroled at Monroe, LA 8 Jun 1865 with that unit. Residence: Cape Girardeau County. There is a record in Louisiana indicating that he drew a Confederate pension from that state. Died 23 Feb 1929 in Eunice, St. Landry Parish, LA. Discharged for reasons not of record 26 Aug 1862.  Apparently re-enlisted for shown present with regiment from Dec 1862 to Apr 1863.  Deserted __ Apr 1863.

Wounded in action and taken prisoner at Mine Creek, KS 25 Oct 1864.  Released upon taking oath of allegiance at Camp Morton, IN prison 22 May 1865.  Described in the prisoner files as having a florid complexion, sandy hair, blue eyes, and 5’ 9 ½ “ in height.  Died in Alhambra, OK and is buried there.

(No Further Record). Residence: Cape Girardeau County. A biographical sketch of Morgan appears in Joseph T. Derry, “Georgia,” Vol. 7, Confederate Military History (Expanded Edition), pp. 863-864. It indicates that Morgan was captured at Lake Providence, AR, at a date not of record in 1863, incarcerated at Memphis, TN, and then shipped north to Camp Douglas, IL, but was exchanged at Cairo, IL en route and returned to the regiment. It also states that he was promoted to regimental Major before the war ended.  The compiler has been unable to verify this promotion in the Confederate records.  He died at Bellingham, WA on 9 Mar 1916.
