| By
nature, the Internet was designed as a network for short
“bursts” of textual messaging.
Today, it is a medium
providing global data retrieval where the content media
has advanced to offer hyper-links and still images as
well as text.
The natural next step in
Internet evolution is adding Rich Media content (mainly
Video and Audio) to existing websites.
Rich media over the Internet
is facing two major obstacles:
- Bandwidth fluctuation and
shortage
- Lack of worldwide-adopted
standard protocols
The bandwidth issue was
resolved by applying “Streaming” technology to video and
audio viewed on the web.
