Housing.
. .
Be sure you provide
a safe and loving home for you cat BEFORE you bring her there.
Kittens are the easiest to adjust to a new home. If they are still
very young, they will be more likely to accept children or other
pets as a part of their life. If you do have a large house and/or
a number of other pets, you need to take a number of steps to
join them to the family. Before you bring them home, set aside
a room just for him. Have a litterbox on one side and food and
water on the other side. It is a good idea to keep these items
as far apart from each other as possible. Would you like eating
in your bathroom? (I didn't think so...) Also be sure there are
toys and either a kitty condo or something else they can scratch
on. |
Let
them explore the room for a little while before brining in anyone
else or any other pets. Let each of the members of the family come
in one at a time slowly. Do not let them go up to the cat and pick
it up. If the cat wants to go to them, that is fine. The cat will
acknowledge them when they are ready, and you do not want to rush
things too fast. |
