Platis Gialos Beach is a a cozy little village close (3 kilometer) to the main town of Mykonos Chora. It is situated in a beautiful half-moon shaped bay. Platis Gialos has a nice and a long stretched beach. The sand is not everywhere very fine, so it won't stick to your feet, and there are no pebbles. There are various luxury hotels and the beach comes with parasols and sunbeds. On and around the beach of Platis Gialos you can find a couple of minimarkets.

On the beach in front of Platis Gialos itself there is a a variety of good restaurants to choose from. Here you can find a very good Italian restaurant and several Greek restaurants, but also some sort of take away, where you can get a cheap delicious pita with souvlaki or french fries. On the beach of Platis Gialos you can also rent a jetski or go waterskiing.

Platis Gialos is a family beach with good connections by bus and taxi to Mykonos Chora, and it's also the place where the kaiks leave for various other beaches, like Paradise and Elia Beach. Every half an hour there is a bus going up and down connecting Platis Gialos Beach with Mykonos town, until rather late in the night, and taxis are really cheap making Platis Gialos Beach a choice for people that do want to go out in Mykonos town, and have dinner there in the evening, or have a drink, but who prefer to wake up close to the beach instead of in Mykonos town itself.

The busride from Platis Gialos to the center of Mykonos Town takes 8 minutes of your time and the trip is never boring, because there is plenty to see on the way. The landscape of Mykonos with its white washed cubic houses and charming small churches never bores.

In Platis Gialos there is also a car and moped rental. As far as I know there is no bank (yet) so if yo want to cash money you have to go to Mykonos Chora. In Mykonos Chora close to the busstation you can find the post office of the island.

From Platis Gialos Beach it is also easy to walk to several other beaches like Psarou Beach and Paranga Beach (with an official nude beach part). For Psarou Beach you head towards Mykonos Chora and after some 500 meters you climb down the stairs to the beach. Paranga Beach is towards the other direction when you take the coastal path at the end of the beach. It's a pleasant 20-30 minutes walk along the coast. In the middle of the walk there is another quiet little beach.

If in first place you come for the beach instead of the entertainment than Platis Gialos is a good choice. It is located 3.5 km from Mykonos Town and there is a good bus service (every half hour until in the evening about 1 or 2 o'clock depending on the period that you go). A taxi to Mykonos Town costs very little. Platis Gialos is a large family beach with water sports facilities and a wide choice of various restaurants, from Italian and Greek to a snack bar and from expensive to very cheap. There are also a couple of supermarkets for everyday shopping. Here in this village we have stayed on several of our trips. From Platis Gialos a coastal path leads past a small beach to two other beaches Paranga and Agia Anna, and if you walk further you end up in Paradise and Super Paradise Beach. On the other side are the beautiful beaches of Psarou of Ornos.

This is where we ended up on our first visit to Mykonos, Mina Studios in Platis Gialos. In total we probably stayed 6 or 7 times here altogether untill we decided to move to Mykonos Town for our accommodation. The owners Mina and her husband Kosmos are very friendly and hospitable. They always picked us up from the harbour or the airport and brought us back again. Sometimes they spontaniously made us some nice snacks and we were invited for a drink and to dinner. Mina even one time baked me a cake when it was my birthday, and threw me a party, it felt like staying with friends. The bus stop and a mini-market are closeby and so is the beach. All rooms were different and I guess we stayed in most of them.

Situated just 100 metres from Platis Gialos Beach and 300 metres from Psarou Beach in Mykonos, the family-run Mina Studios offers self-catering accommodation with free internet access. A variety of restaurants, taverns and mini markets can be found within a short walk from the property. The family owners offer a personalised service combined with a relaxed atmosphere. Upon arrival, guests are welcomed with a refreshing drink or coffee/tea. Each of the studios and apartments is spacious and appointed with a well-equipped kitchen and comfortable living area. Benefit from free internet access throughout your stay and free transfers from and to the airport or port. The public bus allows you to easily access Mykonos Town, which is just 3.5 km away. Frequent boat trips connect to the southern beaches of the island.
