The staff of Vail High School believes in holding students accountable for their academic achievement. The high expectations for academics success have to lead to the establishment of a 2.0 Grade Point Average (GPA) as a minimum, during any semester. Student who earn less than a 2.0 GPA will be placed on academic probation.

Academic probation will last for one full semester, and student will be expected to raise their their grades either one full point or to a 2.0 GPA, which ever comes first.

Ex: A student With a 0.6 GPA will need to improve to a 1.6 GPA.
Ex: A student With a 1.2 GPA will need to improve to a 2.0 GPA.

(Note: The student who raised his/her GPA to 1.6 would continue on academic probation for one more semester. During that semester they would need to reach a 2.0 GPA)

To help the student become more successful, parents, students and the students' academics advisor will be excepted to meet at least twice during the probationary semester. It will be this team's responsibility to create a plan that would allow the student to achieve greater academic success.

When the probationary semester is over students will be in one of two categories. The first category is the group of students who have successfully obtained the needed goal. These students will no longer be on probation, unless they fall into the first example listed above.

Any student who qualifies with a disability under section 504 or IDEA may be exempt from this plan based on the terms and conditions of the student's Individual Education Plan, federal, state, and district guidelines.

The second category of students, are those who do not obtain the goal as set forth by the academic probation term, and do not meet the goals of the team described above. These students shall be withdrawn from Vail High School.
