Installation/Un-Installation

These instructions assume your Sims is installed in the default location. If it is not, please visit the SFC Download Installation/Uninstallation Guide to find out how to locate your Sims Installation folder.

Installation Instructions:

To install a Lot into your game, place the downloaded house**.IFF file inside the ‘House’ folder located inside the ‘UserData folder that corresponds to the neighborhood you want it in.

If your game is installed in the default location, you will find your ‘UserData folders inside the main Sims folder here:

C:\Program Files\Maxis\The Sims

The ‘UserData’ folders are named according to each neighborhood they represent… each having a number after its name, which indicates which neighborhood lots it contains. The only ‘UserData’ folder that does NOT have a number is the representative of neighborhood 1.

When you place the new House**.IFF file inside the House’ folder you will be asked if you want to replace the current House**.IFF file. If you have properly backed up the original in a safe place, then it is safe to say ‘yes’.

The best place to install a new Lot is in an empty Lot.

Note:

Make sure that you back up the original Lot in a safe place before installing a new one.

Un-Installation Instructions:

The quickest and easiest way to un-install any Lot is to use the bulldozer during game play!

The Sims through HouseParty

All 8 of the neighborhoods are the same as the 1st neighborhood, except the later neighborhoods are all vacant. This is the case no matter how many EPs you have. The only thing that changes with EP installations is the neighborhood map and the number of lots available to you.

For example, those having EPs only up to HouseParty installed, will have  access to the basic neighborhood map which has 10 lots…none of which can be zoned for commercial lots. (Lots 1-10)

That will be the same for all 5-8 of their neighborhoods…depending on how many neighborhoods they have.

Broken Lots

I often hear complaints about how missing portals ruin a Sims Fanatic’s Sims Lot or about how Neighborhoods have become unusable due to game crashing when a player tries to access any lot.

Possible Causes

‘Move_objects On’

Your game should not delete any portals, however it has been reported to me that the ‘Move_objects On’ cheat, when it is forgotten to be disabled, can cause some or all of the portals to be deleted along with the house and its contents. This is the most common way people break their lots.

Duplicate GUID

Using objects with a duplicate GUID will render a lot useless. Even if the object worked fine before, recently added downloads may have a duplicate GUID that match a previously installed object…and this will break an otherwise perfectly functioning Lot. This explains why lots which previously worked fine, suddenly crash your game when you try to access them, for seemingly no reason.

You can repair your broken neighborhood and/or broken lots.

ThingCheck

Always run ThingCheck after installing new downloads, to be sure that there are no duplicate GUIDs. You can ignore duplicate filenames, but you must remove all Duplicate GUIDs to avoid game crashes!

Rezoning

Try Rezoning your broken lot.

Neighborhood Replacement

Probably the easiest and fastest way to fix broken lots, if rezoning them crashes your game, would be to copy the house files from a working neighborhood to your broken neighborhood’s house folder.

The Neighborhood Handler

The Neighborhood Handler will add new neighborhoods to your game, repair broken neighborhoods, and back up your favorite lots.

Default Replacement

You can try importing the default lot from the Maxis Official Site.
