Flowers In The Attic (1987)

Who would lock Kristy Swanson in the attic?

Mom, Dad and four kids are a happy family. Then dad dies and mom takes them to creepy Foxworth Hall to restore the kids into her father's will. But there's a problem. It seems that mom married her own uncle, so the crazy/evil grandma Louise Fletcher (better known as Nurse Ratched in "One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest") calls them "devil's spawn" and locks them in a room adjoining the attic for years. The 4 kids (Kristy Swanson, Jeb Stuart Adams, Ben Granger and Lindsay Parker) create their own little "world of love & hate" while mom (Victoria Tennant) slowly goes bonkers.
Loosely based on a best-seller by V.C. Andrews, scripted & directed by Jeffrey Bloom (no relation to John Bloom). Movie is also no relation to the Ray Milland film "The Attic." Jeffrey's previous films were "Jeopardy" (1984), Blood Beach (1981), The Stick-Up (1977) and Dog Pound Shuffle (1975), not to mention "11 Harrowhouse" (1974, writer only), and "Nightmares" (1983, a creepshow co-written with Christopher Crowe).

Kristy Swanson starred the previous year in that MonsterVision classic Deadly Friend, and has also been in Hot Shots, Highway to Hell, Buffy the Vampire Slayer (the 1992 movie), The Phantom (1996), 8 Heads In A Duffel Bag, Lover Girl, and "Big Daddy" (not a horror film, though Adam Sandler's acting is scary). "Flowers In The Attic" is a rather timid horror film, these kids are lucky they never met MonsterVision's People Under The Stairs.

Quotes & Trivia (courtesy the Internet Movie Database)

Narrator: Though it's been many years since I last saw it, I'll always remember that even my first impression was one of fear and wonder. My childhood was soon to be lost, my innocence shattered, and all our dreams destroyed by what we would find within.

Grandmother: Your mother has come home after seventeen years to repent for her sins and for her crime. Not only against your grandfather and me, but against God! Your mother's marriage was unholy! A sacrilege! An abomination in the eyes of the Lord! She did not fall from Grace! She leapt! Into the arms of a man whose veins pulsed with the same blood as hers! Not a stranger, but her own uncle! And you, the children, are the devil's spawn! Evil from the moment of conception!

* Narrator Clare Peck played the role of Miss Mott in the movie Teen Wolf

* Of course not everyone has flowers in the attic. Some have Toys In The Attic
