When the Old Gods died, there arose the New Gods. And as the Third World passed, the Godwave, which had sparked such events as the creation of the Olympian gods and the Speed Force, began to form a new generation of gods. These beings would come to inhabit twin planets at the godwave's core. The wise Izaya, also known as Highfather, resided over the utopian New Genesis. The fearsome Uxas, later to become Darkseid, ruled over the dark, industrial wasteland of Apokolips. And millenia would pass before there would be peace between the two worlds.
When peace was accomplished, it was in the form of an uneasy truce. Izaya and Darkseid agreed to exchange and raise each others' sons. Darkseid's son Orion was brought up in the loving, nurturing environment of New Genesis; Highfather's son Scott Free was raised under the oppressive hand of Darkseid and his minions. Thankfully, Scott Free, also called Mr. Miracle, escaped Apokolips years later. The New Gods possess amazing technology, such as the Boom Tube (which enables them to travel virtually anywhere) or the Mother Box (a sentient computer which responds to the user's spiritual "worthiness").
Earth has been the center of much of the conflict between the two god worlds. Darkseid has set our lowly planet in his gaze because he believes it holds the key to unlocking one of his greatest desires: the Anti-Life Equation. At the same time, Earth has benefitted from the heroic efforts of such New Gods as Orion, Mr. Miracle, Lightray and Barda, all of whom have been members of the Justice League, and defenders of our world. And when the godwave started to fall back on itself, threatening the existence of the Fourth World, it was only with the combined efforts of Earth and New Genesis that the danger was averted.
