Remington Rolling Block

On a recent Gun Shop crawl, I asked the owner what he had for me. "I have a "Schuetzen" rifle you might be interested in", as he walked to one of the safes behind the counter. He handed me a Remington Rolling Block with a fancy target stock; the rifle weighed at least 20 lbs and reminded me of a late 1950's Caddy (the ones with the big fins on the back...).

The similarity to Dutchman's Swede to remarkable. There are almost no markings on the rifle visible, other than the patent info and the caliber (44 CTGE). Could this be an old "Creedmoor" style target rifle of olden days?

Rifle from left side, front. Finish runs from rusty brown to blue/brown.
Left side view from rear. Doesn't it remind you of a '59 Caddy (rear fins?).
Remington stamp, with Patent info (almost exactly like Dutchman's Swede RB)
Left side of Breech Block, hammer and receiver - note there are NO markings on any of the parts
Caliber Stamp of " 44 CTGE " located on the bottom of the octagonal barrel.
View of a crack on the bottom of the pistol grip. It appears that there is a missing "trim" piece that should on the bottom of the grip and on the inside.
View of the front sight blade
View of rear sight area; a "filled dovetail" could have been used for a "flip up" type sight?
Right side view, breech block open and chamber showing. Firing pin is located low on the breech block for rimfire cartridges
Right side view, breech block closed and hammer cocked; note again, no numbers or markings on the parts.
Number under the Fore End Wood on barrel This number was found under the Forend wood; the same number was stamped on the scnauble steel tip.
Numbers stamped on left side of the top tang (visible after removing the wood) Left side - Top tang
Left side - bottom tang Numbers stamped on left side of bottom tang (hidden under buttstock wood)
No numbers found on the bottom of the lower receiver tang Receiver - Bottom of tang`
Closeup of lower receiver tang Closeup of the bottom of the lower receiver tang
Top of the upper receiver tang with Remington info Top of upper receiver tang
Inside of steel butt stock View of the inside of the Swiss-style steel buttstock - no number found on the castings but a lot of filing and grinding on the inside of the casting. There was a number (2004) stamped inside of the forend steel snauble.
Barrel measures 28-1/8" from muzzle to chamber end. The rim step is approximately 1/16" deep. Chamber end of barrel from left side
