~Women's Rights Timeline~

~1981~

 

1981 President Jimmy Carter declares the week of March 8th "National Women's History Week". This started as a local effort for regognition of women by the Education Task Force of Sonoma County, California. They first declared March 8th as National Women's Day in 1978. Their purpose was to get people to realize the important role of women and to provide a multicultural prospective. The activities and events of this effort resulted in enthusiasm and eventually became nationwide.
