SOUL NAME:

BIO:

Clearbrook, ever calm, dignified and thoughtful, is currently the eldest female Wolfrider. Her wisdom and advice is greatly valued in the tribe, as she is a mother figure who has learned forgiveness and is an advocate as such. The long road she travelled in getting to this way of understanding was a painful one.

Clearbrook recognized One-Eye while he was still known as Woodhue. © WaRP GraphicsShe comforted him during the period when he lost his eye at the hands of the humans, which began a life-long distrust of the five-fingered clan. Her long silver braid, somewhat of a trademark for Clearbrook, was almost always braided by One-Eye. It was one of the many things about his lifemate that he was proud of. After Clearbrook's capture at the hands of the Gliders, her hair was braided and arranged in a strange way, causing One-Eye to complain as he began to re-braid her hair (Figure 1, on right). It is conceivable that she and One-Eye, upon first recognizing one another, had a daughter before this act that rendered One-Eye scarred for life. The cause of death of Clearbrook and One-Eye's daughter is unknown, but it must have had a tremendous impact on both elves. Many years later, Scouter was born to the two, helping to ease their pain somewhat.

After the death of her lifemate, Clearbrook was overcome with grief. With the cutting off of her braid as she wrapped it around One-Eye's fallen body, so was her usual gentle nature cut off for a long period of time (Figure 2). Hours later in the Go-Back camps, Clearbrook suffered a moment of insanity. Screaming for her lifemate, she raced out into the snow and fled back to the scene of battle atop her wolf-friend, Whitebrow. Following the sounds of One-Eye's wolf-friend Smoketreader's long, mournful howls, she was led to the very spot where One-Eye was killed. She sat in disbelief with her lifemate's wolf in seeing that One-Eye's body was gone (Figure 3). After recovering from the war against the Frozen Mountain Trolls, she was soon consumed with anger and revenge, which dulled her survival instincts. It was Strongbow who keenly observed, "I've seen the look on her face only once before!" He was referring to the look Bearclaw had on his face when his lifemate Joyleaf was murdered at the hands of Madcoil. To this, Cutter agreed, stating that, "We can't let Clearbrook choose my father's path to death!"

When One-Eye's body was found in the cavern of the trolls, hope flared briefly
that her lifemate would be returned to her. Sadly, Leetah explained what she had done, giving life to his body even though his spirit had already fled to the Palace. Clearbrook forgave Leetah for what she had done, but refused to give up hope. When One-Eye's body was brought to the Palace and his spirit was given a chance to reunite with his body, she did not understand why her lifemate would not return to her. Still refusing to give up hope, she declared, "I can't kill his body -- his dear, empty armor. Not while there's a chance he'll reclaim it!" By this time she had made a choice to return to the Palace to guard One-Eye's body and to be with his spirit until body and soul were one again.

Instead, after three years had passed, healing and time taught Clearbrook to release her grief over One-Eye's death. She finally understood that One-Eye's spirit would never truly leave her -- that his body was no longer necessary for the love to remain between them. Returning to the Palace to commune with her lifemate's spirit, she made a decision. Cutting open the wrapstuff that had kept him alive, she told him, "Magic gave you this breath that is not life, beloved... Go now!" With these words, One-Eye was finally able to make an end to his death years before. As the last sigh left his body, his head turned to her and a small smile curved his lips. One-Eye's spirit loomed above her... With both of his eyes restored.
