Trinity defeated St. Xavier by a score of 38-21 to capture the 6A Championship.  Trinity recorded 20 first downs and 505 yards of total offense.  The Shamrocks were penalized 10 times for 86 yards and had two passes intercepted.  St. Xavier recorded 15 first downs and 275 yards of total offense.  The Tigers were penalized twice for 22 yards and had one pass intercepted.

Rondale Moore led Trinity’s ground game with 174 yards and two touchdowns on 19 carries.  Luke McGuire carried the ball seven times for 36 yards.  Nick Bohn completed 19 of 26 passes for 286 yards and three touchdowns with two interceptions.  Rondale Moore caught five passes for 114 yards and a touchdown.  Nick Strothman added four receptions for 63 yards and two touchdowns.  Ryan Miller caught four passes for 56 yards.  T. Palombino added three receptions for 40 yards.  Jacob Dingle returned two kickoffs for 45 yards with a long return of 26 yards.  Nick Cardosi led the defense with six solo and two assisted tackles.  Arak McDuffey added five solo and three assisted tackles with 4.5 of his tackles resulting in losses totaling 15 yards.  Jacob Dingle recorded three solo and four assisted tackles and intercepted a pass.  Ethan Hull added six solo and one assisted tackles with four of his tackles resulting in losses totaling 23 yards.

Jack Albers led St. Xavier’s ground game with 50 yards and a touchdown on 24 carries.  Jack Albers completed nine of 22 passes for 196 yards and two touchdowns with one interception.  Will Crum caught five passes for 102 yards and a touchdown.  Ben Mueller added three receptions for 82 yards and a touchdown.  Andre Coleman returned three kickoffs for 70 yards with a long return of 32 yards.  Cameron Garrett returned two kickoffs for 46 yards with a long return of 34 yards.  Andrew Uhls led the defense with seven solo and two assisted tackles with 2.5 of his tackles resulting in losses totaling five yards.  Jude Carlon added six solo and one assisted tackles and intercepted a pass.  Sam Boarman recorded four solo and one assisted tackles and intercepted a pass.  Evan Walker added four solo and one assisted tackles with 1.5 of his tackles resulting in losses totaling 10 yards.

Covington Catholic continues their domination this season as they defeated Madison Southern 49-13 to finish the season with a 15-0 record.  Madison Southern trailed 20-13 in the second quarter but Covington Catholic scored 29 unanswered points to decide the game.  Madison Southern amassed 341 yards but was unable to stop Covington Catholic’s high octane air game as the Colonels threw for 337 yards and three touchdowns.  AJ Mayer also ran for three touchdowns today.

Covington Catholic recorded 18 first downs and 476 yards of total offense.  The Colonels were penalized five times for 50 yards and had one pass intercepted.  Madison Southern recorded 18 first downs and 341 yards of total offense.  The Eagles were penalized eight times for 82 yards and had two passes intercepted.

AJ Mayer led Covington Catholic’s ground game with 71 yards and three touchdowns on nine carries.  Casey McGinness carried the ball nine times for 50 yards.  AJ Mayer completed 11 of 15 passes for 337 yards and three touchdowns.  Luke Lenihan caught four passes for 101 yards and a touchdown.  Casey McGinness added three receptions for 152 yards and two touchdowns.  Michael Mayer added two receptions for 34 yards.  Malachi Pike caught one pass for 49 yards.  Kameron Butler led the defense with 10 solo and three assisted tackles with two of his tackles resulting in losses totaling six yards.  Michael Mayer added eight solo and two assisted tackles.  Andrew Shelton recorded six solo tackles and intercepted a pass.  Luke Lenihan also intercepted a pass.

Landen Stacy led Madison Southern’s ground game with 131 yards on 24 carries.  Carter Smith carried the ball 16 times for 91 yards.  6-3 295 pound lineman Trey Livingood often lines up in the backfield on short yardage players around the goal line and carried the ball twice for five yards and two touchdowns.  Landen Stacy completed 11 of 20 passes for 111 yards with two interceptions.  Hunter Richardson caught five passes for 63 yards.  Carter Smith added four receptions for 27 yards.  Noah Hughes returned three kickoffs for 57 yards with a long return of 22 yards.  Jordan Casteel led the defense with four solo and three assisted tackles and intercepted a pass.  Carter Smith added three solo and four assisted tackles with two of his tackles resulting in losses totaling eight yards.  Nathaniel Eads recorded three solo and three assisted tackles.

Franklin Simpson defeated Johnson Central by a score of 35-21.  Franklin Simpson recorded 16 first downs and 386 yards of total offense.  They were penalized nine times for 73 yards.  Johnson Central recorded nine first downs and 246 yards of total offense.  Johnson Central was penalized four times for 30 yards. 

Tre Bass led Franklin Simpson’s ground game with 76 yards and two touchdowns on seven carries.  Saul Brady carried the ball 13 times for 70 yards.  Carlos McKinney added 40 yards and a touchdown on 14 carries.  Rylan Thomas completed six of seven passes for 195 yards and a touchdown.  J. Covington caught four passes for 97 yards.  Tre Bass caught a 73 yard touchdown pass.  James Baker led the defense with six solo and four assisted tackles.  Cade Harvey added five solo and four assisted tackles.  T. Goodnight recorded three solo tackles with two of his tackles resulting in losses totaling 10 yards.

Blake Gamble led Johnson Central’s ground game with 33 yards and a touchdown on nine carries.  Devin Johnson carried the ball six times for 29 yards.  Riley Preece completed four of nine passes for 180 yards and two touchdowns.  Seth Dalton caught two passes for 111 yards and two touchdowns.  Blake Gamble caught one pass for 67 yards.  Caleb Osborne returned six kickoffs for 102 yards with a long return of 34 yards.  Hunter McCloud led the defense with seven solo and three assisted tackles.  Matt Horn added six solo and three assisted tackles with two of his tackles resulting in losses totaling 13 yards.  Evan Adkins and Devin Johnson each recorded three solo and three assisted tackles.

Danville finishes off a 15-0 season with a 35-21 victory over an old nemesis Mayfield for the Class 2A Championship.  D’Mauriae VanCleave added the sizzle to the explosive Danville offense with two rushing touchdowns, one touchdown reception, and a 60 yard punt return for another score.  Danville recorded 19 first downs and 353 yards of total offense.  The Admirals were penalized four times for 22 yards and had a pass intercepted.  Mayfield recorded 16 first downs and 360 yards of total offense.  They were penalized six times for 31 yards, lost a fumble, and had three passes intercepted.

D’Mauriae VanCleave led Danville’s ground attack with 103 yards and two touchdowns on 10 carries.  Donlevy Harris carried the ball 18 times for 68 yards.  Zach Thornton added 64 yards on 14 carries.  Zach Thornton completed 13 of 17 passes for 118 yards and two touchdowns with one interception.  D’Mauriae VanCleave caught five passes for 42 yards and a touchdown.  David Walker added three receptions for 32 yards.  Jaleel Warren added two receptions for 25 yards and a touchdown.  D’Mauriae VanCleave returned one punt for 60 yards and a touchdown.  Donlevy Harris led the defense with nine solo and one assisted tackles with two of his tackles resulting in losses totaling eight yards.  David Walker added six solo tackles.  Chase Tandy recorded four solo tackles with two of his tackles resulting in losses totaling eight yards.  D’Mauriae VanCleave intercepted two passes, Brennen McGuire intercepted one pass he returned for 23 yards, and James Patton recovered a fumble.

Kyle Hurt led Mayfield’s ground game with 47 yards and a touchdown on 10 carries.  K. Matthews carried the ball seven times for 34 yards.  Jaden Stinson completed 19 of 32 passes for 250 yards and two touchdowns with three interceptions.  Connor Guthrie completed five of six passes for 34 yards.  Jordan Harrison caught six passes for 130 yards and a touchdown.  K. Matthews added six receptions for 64 yards.  Alonzo Daniel caught three passes for 48 yards and a touchdown.  Kyle Hurt led the defense with eight solo and three assisted tackles with one of his tackles resulting in a four yard loss.  Denzel Perry added five solo and two assisted tackles with one of his tackles resulting in a two yard loss and intercepted a pass he returned 17 yards.  Brady Smith recorded four solo and three assisted tackles with two of his tackles resulting in losses totaling four yards.

Boyle County raced out to a 21-7 first quarter lead on their way to a 40-21 victory over Corbin.  Reed Lanter three five touchdown passes, three of them to Reese Smith.  Smith also intercepted two passes, one he returned for a touchdown.  Boyle County recorded 24 first downs and 460 yards of total offense.  The Rebels were penalized eight times for 100 yards.  Corbin recorded 13 first downs and 206 yards of total offense.  The Redhounds were penalized six times for 68 yards and had three passes intercepted.

Tanner Crawford led Boyle County’s ground game with 92 yards on 17 carries.  Landen Bartleson carried the ball 16 times for 88 yards.  Blake Biggs added 45 yards on five carries.  Reed Lanter completed 16 of 24 passes for 223 yards and five touchdowns.  Nick Walker caught six passes for 44 yards.  Reese Smith added five receptions for 120 yards and three touchdowns.  Reiley Colwick added four receptions for 53 yards and a touchdown.  Landen Bartleson caught a six yard touchdown reception.  Clete Hellyer led the defense with six solo and one assisted tackles with three of his tackles resulting in losses totaling five yards.  Wilson Kelly added four solo and one assisted tackles.  Nick Walker chipped in with four solo tackles.  Reese Smith recorded three solo tackles and intercepted two passes; one he returned 40 yards for a touchdown.  Reiley Colwick also intercepted a pass.

Chase Estep led Corbin’s ground game with 95 yards on 14 carries.  Cameron Sizemore carried the ball nine times for 30 yards.  Cameron Sizemore completed 12 of 23 passes for 81 yards and two touchdowns with three interceptions.  C. Gosselin caught two passes for 18 yards and a touchdown.  Ethan Wine caught a 17 yard touchdown pass.  Jacob Steely returned three kickoffs for 103 yards including an 80 yard return for a touchdown.  Nate Smith led the defense with 13 solo and two assisted tackles.  Ethan Sims added seven solo and one assisted tackles.  Cameron Gilbert recorded seven solo tackles.  C. Beechwood dominated play on both sides of the ball tonight in a 41-0 shutout victory over Raceland.  Beechwood recorded 18 first downs and 305 yards of total offense.  They were penalized seven times for 46 yards and lost a fumble.  Raceland recorded three first downs and 27 yards of total offense.  They were penalized six times for 27 yards, lost two fumbles, and had a pass intercepted.

James Davis led Beechwood’s rushing attack with 88 yards and three touchdowns on 24 carries.  Logan Castleman carried the ball eight times for 51 yards and a touchdown.  Brayden Burch completed 22 of 30 passes for 186 yards and one touchdown.  Daniel Mescher caught 12 passes for 118 yards and a touchdown.  Logan Castleman added four receptions for 35 yards.  Harrison Heist led the defense with five solo and two assisted tackles with two of his tackles resulting in losses totaling four yards.  R. Cottingham added four solo and two assisted tackles with one of his tackles resulting in a four yard loss.  Joshua Derry recorded four solo and one assisted tackles.  Jake Moore intercepted a pass and Blake Soete and G. Dollenmeyer each recovered fumbles. 

Dalton Adkins led Raceland’s rushing attack with eight yards on two carries.  Hunter Lacks carried the ball five times for seven yards.  Damon Black completed six of 10 passes for eight yards with one interception.  Judd Adkins caught two passes for two yards.  Michael Hughes added one reception for six yards.  Gunnur Lewis returned seven kickoffs for 125 yards with a long return of 23 yards.  Dalton Adkins led the defense with 11 solo and one assisted tackles with one of his tackles resulting in a two yard loss.  Gunnur Lewis added seven solo tackles.  Jayden Boggs recorded two solo and two assisted tackles with two of his tackles resulting in losses totaling 13 yards.  Tyus Ferguson added two solo tackles with two of his tackles resulting in losses totaling 10 yards.  Seth Brooks chipped in with three solo and one assisted tackles and recovered a fumble.

Week Fourteen in Review Russell Athletic/KHSAA Commonwealth Gridiron Bowl (Semifinals)-November 24, 2017

 

Class A Playoffs

 

Beechwood 63  Campbellsville 7 – James Davis carried the ball 15 times for 199 yards and three touchdowns.

 

Raceland 17  Pikeville 14 – Luke LeMaster kicked a 36 yard field goal as time expired.

 

Class 2A Playoffs

 

Danville 43  Glasgow 0 – D’Mauriae VanCLeave carried the ball four times for 98 yards and two touchdowns and added six receptions for 96 yards and a touchdown.

 

Mayfield 21  Christian Academy of Louisville 14 – Mayfield extends their home playoff winning streak to 42 games.

 

Class 3A Playoffs

 

Boyle County 14  Elizabethtown 7 – Kaden Gervacio and Clete Hellyer recorded key interceptions for the Rebels to key their victory.

 

Corbin 21  Central 20 – Corbin stopped a two point conversion attempt by Central to hold on for the victory.

 

Class 4A Playoffs

 

Franklin-Simpson 42  Collins 38 – Tre Bass ran for 127 yards and a touchdown to lead the victors.  JR Lucas completed 26 of 41 passes for 444 yards and four touchdowns and ran for another touchdown to lead Collins.

 

Johnson Central 43  Wayne County 24 – Blake Gamble carried the ball 19 times for 103 yards and three touchdowns.

 

Class 5A Playoffs

 

Covington Catholic 43  South Warren 7 – AJ Mayer completed 18 of 27 passes for 339 yards and four touchdowns.

 

Madison Southern 27  Harlan County 20 – Carter Smith carried the ball 20 times for 151 yards and three touchdowns.

 

Class 6A Playoffs

 

St. Xavier 48  Scott County 35 – Anthony Moretti carried the ball 15 times for 179 yards and two touchdowns.  Jack Albers completed 11 of 18 passes for 222 yards and three touchdowns and carried the ball 10 times for 56 yards and two touchdowns.

 

Trinity 49  Central Hardin 3 – Nick Strothman caught seven passes for 115 yards and three touchdowns.

This game featured two teams with high scoring averages but defense ruled tonight as Boyle County eked out a 14-7 victory over Elizabethtown.  The game remained scoreless until the final quarter as both teams traded touchdowns and the score was 7-7.  Boyle County finally got a break when Kaden Gervacio intercepted a Tyler Durbin pass at the Elizabethtown 18 yard line with approximately 4:30 left in the game.  The Rebels took advantage and took the lead on a one yard run by Landen Bartleson and a conversion kick by Harrison Mesplay to give Boyle County a 14-7 lead with 2:26 left on the clock.  Clete Hellyer intercepted a pass with less than 30 seconds left in the game to ensure the victory.  Boyle County recorded 13 first downs and 261 yards of total offense.  The Rebels were penalized six times for 39 yards and lost a fumble.  Elizabethtown recorded 12 first downs and 199 yards of total offense.  The Panthers were penalized nine times for 82 yards and had three passes intercepted.

Landen Bartleson led Boyle County’s ground game with 67 yards and a touchdown on 20 carries.  Tanner Crawford carried the ball eight times for 25 yards.  Reed Lanter completed 16 of 25 passes for 166 yards and one touchdown.  Nick Walker caught four passes for 56 yards.  Reiley Colwick added three receptions for 30 yards.  Landen Bartleson also caught three passes for 27 yards.  Sam Tiller caught two passes for 22 yards.  Reese Smith caught two passes for 21 yards and a touchdown.

Tyler Durbin led Elizabethtown’s ground game with 21 yards on 12 carries.  Jay Becherer carried the ball eight times for 19 yards.  Tyler Durbin completed 15 of 25 passes for 143 yards and a touchdown with three interceptions.  Kass Disney caught five passes for 75 yards and a touchdown.  Noah Peeler caught three passes for 23 yards.  Jay Becherer added three receptions for 19 yards and Jey Gregory added three catches for 17 yards.

Covington Catholic remains undefeated and defeated South Warren 43-7 to advance to the championship game.  Covington Catholic recorded 21 first downs and recorded 480 yards of total offense.  The Colonels were penalized four times for 30 yards.  South Warren recorded 13 first downs and 288 yards of total offense.  They were penalized six times for 74 yards, lost a fumble, and had a pass intercepted.

AJ Mayer led Covington Catholic’s ground game with 52 yards and a touchdown on 10 carries.  C. McGinness carried the ball 15 times for 48 yards and a touchdown.  G. Dyer added 41 yards on two carries.  AJ Mayer completed 18 of 27 passes for 339 yards and four touchdowns.  J. Coldiron caught four passes for 120 yards and two touchdowns.  S. Schuh added four receptions for 83 yards.  M. Pike caught for passes for 64 yards.  C. McGinness had three receptions for 31 yards and a touchdown.  M. Mayer caught two passes for 21 yards.  L. Lenihan added a 20 yard touchdown reception.  S. Schuh returned one kickoff for 25 yards.  Grant Dyer punted twice for a 47.0 average with a long punt of 48 yards and both his punts inside the 20 yard line.  G. Dyer led the defense with six solo and two assisted tackles with two of his tackles resulting in losses totaling three yards.  J. Maile added four solo tackles with one of his tackles resulting in a five yard loss.  D. Summe recorded three solo tackles and recovered a fumble.  J. Coldiron intercepted a pass.

C. Winn led South Warren’s ground game with 77 yards on 22 carries.  G. Spurrier carried the ball five times for 23 yards.  G. Spurrier completed 16 of 27 passes for 188 yards and one touchdown with one interception.  M. Elmore caught eight passes for 147 yards and a touchdown.  C. Winn added two receptions for 16 yards.  C. Bush caught two passes for 12 yards.  T. Jackson returned two kickoffs for 44 yards with a long return of 26 yards.  T. Jackson led the defense with seven solo tackles.  J. Lacey added five solo tackles with one of his tackles resulting in a four yard loss.  P. Sparkman recorded three solo tackles with three of his tackles resulting in losses totaling five yards.

Danville has been on a mission all year and took another step toward the championship with a dominating 43-0 win over Glasgow.  Danville dominated on both sides of the ball and Glasgow was unable to cope with Danville’s speed tonight.  Danville will now advance to the championship where they will meet up with a familiar adversary Mayfield.  Danville recorded 19 first downs and 497 yards of total offense.  The Admirals were penalized five times for 54 yards and did not have any turnovers.  Glasgow recorded nine first downs and 161 yards of total offense.  The Scotties were penalized five times for 50 yards, lost a fumble, and had a pass intercepted.

Donlevy Harris led Danville’s ground game with 105 yards and two touchdowns on 12 carries.  D’Mauriae VanCleave added 98 yards and two touchdowns on four carries.  Zach Thornton added 51 yards on four carries.  Zach Thornton completed 12 of 19 passes for 229 yards and two touchdowns.  D’Mauriae VanCleave caught six passes for 96 yards and a touchdown.  David Walker added three receptions for 97 yards.  Tanner Ford added two receptions for 25 yards and a touchdown.

Nick Mitchell led Glasgow’s ground game with 36 yards on eight carries.  Griffin Murphy carried the ball once for 19 yards.  Tanner Abernathy completed nine of 17 passes for 98 yards with one interception.  Dalvin Smith caught four passes for 44 yards.  Sielverrio Rescontellio added two receptions for 21 yards.
