Scott County coach Billy Hicks started the following lineup: 6-3 Sr. Tony Martini, 6-1 Sr. Matt Murray, 7-1 So. Raekwon Long, 6-1 Sr. Teddy Ware, and 6-2 Sr. Trent Gilbert. Paul Laurence Dunbar coach Scott Chalk countered with 6-4 Sr. Vince Davis, 6-2 Sr. Jordan Hurst, 6-6 Sr. Vince Clark, 6-0 Sr. Donnie Lewis, and 6-0 Sr. Troy Black.
Scott County defeated Paul Laurence Dunbar by a score of 75-72. Dunbar led 32-31 at halftime but Scott County rallied to take a 57-45 lead after three quarters. Dunbar outscored Scott County 27-18 in the final quarter to make the game close. There were nine lead changes and seven ties in this game. Scott County’s superior free throw shooting was the difference tonight as they were 25 of 31 (80.6%) from the line tonight compared to 21 of 32 (65.6%) for Dunbar.
Scott County shot 51.1% from the field including four of 12 from the three point line. The Cardinals connected on 25 of 31 free throws, pulled down 34 rebounds, and scored 15 points off 11 Dunbar turnovers. Dunbar shot 40.7% from the field including three of 11 from beyond the arc. The Bulldogs connected on 21 of 32 free throws ,pulled down 34 rebounds, and scored 15 points off 16 Scott County turnovers.
Trent Gilbert led Scott County with 39 points including four three point baskets and 15 of 16 free throws. Gilbert also pulled down six rebounds. Matt Murray added eight points and Teddy Ware chipped in with seven points and five rebounds. Tony Martini pulled down nine rebounds and Raekwon Long blocked four shots.
Darius Williams led Dunbar with 13 points and five rebounds. 6-0 Fr. Taveion Hollingsworth also scored 13 points. Donnie Lewis chipped in with 12 points.
