Garden Party

You can't please everyone, goes the song, and we are being told continuously that the US can't please anyone.  That the entire world now hates us due to ---.   But in Popularity Contest  Why they hate, and like, usVictor Davis Hanson infoms us that some people are very pleased by America.

First let's take a look about what we already know, because we keep being told about it

The latest Pew poll of June 2007 purports to offer a comprehensive survey of what the world thinks of the United

States. Polls, of course, can be unreliable; and much of the commonly expressed anti-Americanism seems to be a mere reflection of disdain shown by our own intellectuals and academics, Hollywood, and the media. While it is hard to separate what foreigners feel about Americans in general from their opinions about the United States government in particular, the results of this latest survey are both predictable and astonishing.

The nations of the Middle East and other Islamic countries, of course, poll anti-United States across the board, from Palestine to Morocco. And therein arise some interesting paradoxes. Kuwait, once extinguished until the American military restored it, is the most pro-American nation of the Arab Middle East. Yet, even there, as many Kuwaitis have an unfavorable opinion of America as a favorable one.

Even more perplexing are the attitudes voiced by some key European countries — France (60 percent unfavorable to the U.S.), Germany (66 percent unfavorable), and Spain (60 percent). Millions of Europeans in these countries express a much more negative view of the United States than do Hugo Chavez’s Venezuelans. So much for the supposedly sweeping changes in France and Germany that brought the Sarkozy and Merkel governments to power.

But who really cares to calibrate all the reasons why the Germans hated us when Ronald Reagan deployed Pershing missiles to protect them, or why the Greeks hated us when Madeline Albright tried to stop Balkan genocide, or why the French hated us for ending the once lucrative Baathist regime in Iraq? Instead, at some point Americans should ask themselves how they can continue to be allied militarily with countries whose populations have a more negative view of us than do our supposed rivals in Russia (48 percent unfavorable) and China (57 percent).

 

Now let us look at a few things the media has not been to free in telling us about.

 

Contrast all that dislike with those nations who appreciate the United States, which tells us something much

different about America’s role in the world. The Kenyans and Ghanaians, for example, reveal more admiration for the United States (87 and 80 percent, respectively) than do we Americans ourselves.

In fact, all of sub-Saharan Africa — poor and with a past of exploitation — has an unbelievably high regard for the U.S. Perhaps black Africans appreciate our support for democracy, realize that we were not colonialists, see that blacks are succeeding in the U.S. in a way unthinkable elsewhere, know that we spearhead the global effort to bring AIDS relief and stop the genocide in Darfur, and sympathize with their own long struggle against radical Islam.

Much of Eastern Europe is similarly well-inclined. Poland, for example (61 percent approval rating), does not trust Russia — and does not trust Europe to offer any help in a future hour of crisis

Likewise, many countries of Latin America — Mexico, Chile, Peru — poll staunchly pro-American. We have tried to support these shaky Latin American democracies, welcomed their immigrants, and allowed billions of dollars to be sent back as worker remittances. And unlike a Spain, France, Germany, the Muslim Middle East, Russia, or China, such confident emerging nations also are not hung up on perceived past grandeur, blame-gaming the new superpower for their own subordinate roles.

Indeed, how strange that these poor countries in Africa, Eastern Europe, and South America are more favorable to America than are oil-rich sheikdoms, rich European socialist republics, and Middle East recipients of massive U.S. aid.

The more confident a nation is, even when poor, the more likely it seems to admire America. Some of our best supporters turn out to be one-billion person India (59 percent favorable rating), Japan (61 percent), and South Korea (58 percent) — all democratic, capitalist juggernauts, and appreciative of liberal American trade policy and U.S. military support. Again, should we Americans value the friendship of such democracies — or that of a China that cheats on international trade accords and intimidates its neighbors?

For me the most puzzling is Britain , the British public now barely expresses a favorable impression of the United States (51 percent).

 When compared with Russia (48 percent unfavorable), doesn't that mean 52 percent favorable?

So it appears the world alignment is Russia and China split evenly, Muslims and European countries in overwhelming opposition and the rest of the World Favorable.

That last bit seems to be a secret as far as the Mainstream Media is concerned.

For the future no matter how chilly US=Russian diplomacy may get at times IMO we should bide our time.

The day may come when China decides that they should have Siberia with its riches in natural resources and petroleum.

I can see a deal being struck between China and the OPEC nations.

For support in their annexation of Siberia they will support OPEC price supports and maybe even sweeten the pot with Oil sales under world prices to OPEC much like the Oil for Food Scams.

Both parties will then explain to Europe that any support of Russia will result in, shall we say delays and shortages in Energy supplies.

Europe will do nothing and might even justify the transfer. They did the same thing to Czechoslovakia, remember?

It will be left to the US, Japan, India and the Nations of Eastern Europe, South America, Africa and Non-Muslim Asian Nations to take a stand in support of Russia.

If History is any indicator the EU and the UN will take no action other than Hot Air.

An Abomination In The Sight Of The Lord

 In my last post

 Committee for the Propagation of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice Of Vegetables?,

We explored the attempts by  Al Qaeda to protect tomatoes from the uncontrollable lust of cucumbers.

But on reflection, I have realized there is an aspect of Vegetable Immorality, that even they have overlooked?

What about cucumbers which touch other cucumbers???

Hear the Word of the LORD!

Verily, verily I Say Unto You

A  Cucumber which lies with another Cucumber in the same manner that a Cucumber lies with a Tomato, is

  AN ABOMINATION IN THE SIGHT OF THE LORD

They shall surely be put to Death 

 

Yeah stoning is too merciful for such a perversion,

 

 

 They should be cut into tiny pieces and perhaps  served with a light

vinaigrette dressing?

Committee for the Propagation of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice Of Vegetables?

Some may be familiar with th valiant record of The Committee for the Propagation of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice AKA mutaween in Saudi Arabia

 

Saudi Arabia's religious police stopped schoolgirls from leaving a blazing building because they were not wearing correct Islamic dress, according to Saudi newspapers.

In a rare criticism of the kingdom's powerful "mutaween" police, the Saudi media has accused them of hindering attempts to save 15 girls who died in the fire on Monday.

About 800 pupils were inside the school in the holy city of Mecca when the tragedy occurred.

15 girls died in the blaze and more than 50 others were injured

According to the al-Eqtisadiah daily, firemen confronted police after they tried to keep the girls inside because they were not wearing the headscarves and abayas (black robes) required by the kingdom's strict interpretation of Islam.

One witness said he saw three policemen "beating young girls to prevent them from leaving the school because they were not wearing the abaya

 

 

But it would appear that even they are being lax in the area of Shari’a  if they allow tomatoes to be subjected to the uncontrollable lust of cucumbers!

Learning from al qaeda - a hot tomato and a well endowed cucumber? hat tip other cheek.

American commanders cite al-Qaida's severe brand of Islam, which is so extreme that in Baqouba, al-Qaida has warned street vendors not to place tomatoes beside cucumbers because the vegetables are different genders, Col. David Sutherland said.

Such radicalism has fueled sectarian violence in Iraq and redrawn the demographics of many mixed Sunni-Shiite towns in Diyala, where tens of thousands of Shiites have been forced to flee large population centers.

You know the may be a commercail opportunity here?  I am not certain if anyone is  marketing Burkhas for Tomatoes.

 

But there is good news on the Vegable Liberation Front the report of the above crack down on immoral vegetables came from Baquba, and reports from that area are that the Surge is being successful

 

HH: I’m joined now by satellite phone from Baghdad by intrepid reporter Michael Yon. He’s actually in Baquba. Michael, welcome back to the Hugh Hewitt Show, always a pleasure to speak with you. How goes the fighting on the ground?

 

MY: Well, it’s really slowed down here in Baquba, Hugh. I was just in the TOC or the headquarters about fifteen minutes ago before I came on the show, and they were like the Maytag repairmen here. I mean, Baquba has just…you know, it was a very serious fight when it started, Operation Arrowhead Ripper on the 19th of June, I came in with them, but it quickly abated. The people have just turned against al Qaeda here. And so Baquba is really, the big fight now is to get the food distribution working again, which it already is. You know, they’ve got that going. And now, they’re working on fuel, because the fuel relates to electricity and water pumping. So really, they’re working on more civic things now. There’s still some combat to do, but not a lot, actually, because like I said, you know, the people just turned against al Qaeda.

 

HH: Now Michael Yon, a lot of people don’t know the significance of Baquba. And so can you explain what peace in Baquba means for the larger war effort?

 

MY: Well, it’s huge, because al Qaeda had claimed Baquba as their capitol, their worldwide capitol. And you might recall one of the things that kind of upsets people about my reporting is I said Iraq was in a civil war, and I said that way back in February of 2005, and I continue to do so. But when I first wrote that, I was in Baquba, in 2005, and I spent two or three months here. And it was just total…you could see it, and you could see al Qaeda was trying to foment that civil war, because that’s their underlying strategy, is to do that. And so getting, fracturing al Qaeda here, and al Qaeda alienating so many Iraqis, it’s helping us to put a damper on the civil war.

So that part of the world is now safe for contact between consenting vegetables.

Those that are mature of course, contact between seeds of course would be, well such perversion does not bear thought.

 Those are the word's penned by Thomas Paine December 23, 1776 to introduce the first segment of   The Crisis

THESE are the times that try men's souls. The summer soldier and the sunshine patriot will, in this crisis, shrink from the service of their country; but he that stands by it now, deserves the love and thanks of man and woman. Tyranny, like hell, is not easily conquered; yet we have this consolation with us, that the harder the conflict, the more glorious the triumph. What we obtain too cheap, we esteem too lightly: it is dearness only that gives every thing its value. Heaven knows how to put a proper price upon its goods; and it would be strange indeed if so celestial an article as FREEDOM should not be highly rated. 

There have been other times to try men's souls during the History of the Republic. I would imagine there were grim faces and choked emotions upon the News of:

 The Burning of the Capital during the War of 1812

The Fall of Fort Sumter which sparked the Civil War

The first casualty reports when our troops entered the fray during World War I

The news of the bombing of Pearl Harbor

The Fall of Bataan

The casualty reports of the Normandy Invasion.

The Winter War of the Battle of the Bulge.

There have been many times to try the souls of men and women since the Dawn of our Republic

But I wish to ask the reader here has there ever been a time when one of our political leaders found they had to walk out of a report to Congress by the Military because they found it upsetting that the news from the front was

                  GOOD??????

The Good News is Bad News

It’s tough being a member of Congress. Even if you’re in the majority, as is Rep. Nancy Boyda of Kansas, you never know when your ears may be assaulted by outrageous and offensive ideas.

Like what? At a recent hearing of the Armed Services Committee, retired Gen. Jack Keane said “progress is being made” by U.S. military forces in Iraq; “We are on the offensive and we have the momentum,” he added. The freshman congresswoman was so distressed by these remarks that

she got up and she walked out.

 There was “only so much” she could take, she explained, so she “had to leave the room … after so much of the frustration of having to listen to what we listened to.” She said she was worried, too, that General Keane’s remarks “will in fact show up in the media and further divide this country.”

 

 When you read those words, it is hard to know whether to laugh or cry

Gangsta Bach

The latest weapon in the War Against Gangerster Activity in Washington State appears to be   Classical Music?

        Tacoma tries classical music to chase gangs from bus stops

TACOMA, Wash. -- Believing gangs and Mozart don't mix, city police and Pierce Transit officials are mounting a classical attack on a growing problem of street gangs at bus stops.

This week speakers are being installed to transmit classical music from KING FM radio of Seattle at the Tacoma Mall Transit Center, a tactic designed to reduce the number of young hooligans who deal or buy drugs at the bus stop or use public transportation as an easy way to circulate between the mall and other trouble-prone places.

If the orderly strains of Bach, Brahms and Beethoven succeed in reducing disorder at the mall, speakers tuned to KING FM may be installed at more bus stops, said Rod Baker, the transit agency's chief of public safety.

It is admittedly much better than some of their other ideas

The alternative is removing covered bus stops that attract drug dealers and loiterers, a stop already taken at some bus stops near the mall, he said.

So hard working honest citizens who depend on public transport get to stand in the rain because of the problems associated with gang members loitering at bus stops.

It probably is beyond expectations for any of these brilliant public leaders to think of having the police handle this problem?

Foolish question!  There is one scary aspect to this whole picture.  If the 2008 Election goes truly sour, we might wake up to Breaking News such as

 As his first Official Act the President ordered the National Symphony Orchestra to be deployed to Iraq to sooth the savage breasts of Al Qaeda

UPDATE: Denmark Exports Soaring
After blogger Judith Klinghoffer and an army of Davids declared a "Buy Danish" campaign to combat the Muslim boycott. The Guardian says "fervent rightwing Americans" participated in the buying spree and implies that the cartoonists were responsible for the deaths of 139 people.(like it was the cartoonists who killed those people instead of the ones who shed their blood, how like the Progressive TransNazi viewpoint)

"Derer et yndigt land" was first performed for a large gathering of Danes in 1844, and became popular quickly with the Danish people. It was adopted later that year by the Danish government as a national anthem, but not the sole national anthem. This anthem is on equal status with "Kong Christian",which is both the national and royal anthem.

When the Danish anthem is usually performed or sung, the first verse is played in its entirety, then it is followed by the last four lines of the last verse. (This is true whether the lyrics are sung or not



Recently I have been posting music to Illustrate the Diversity of America, this week I have a different motive to express Solidarity with DENMARK


I think I shall title my Post, "There is no "But" in "Freedom of Speech".




When I first started upon my journey through the blogverse I created a Statement of Purpose
Now upon reading it, one can realize that I did not hold to every detail of that original statement, but from it's basic premise, I have never swayed, in my belief that the Blogs are in fact the Committees of Correspondence of the Second American Revolution.

And that it is a Revolution of Information, no longer can we afford and allow elite gateways to control what we can see, hear and discuss.

For I believe that those bloggers who find their way, here and in particular from the Blogs associated with Sam.

HAVE SOMETHING TO SAY.

Some of us are more Serious, some of us are more lighthearted and some post the common ordinary things that make one smile and recall that Life without the simple things to treasure is meaningless.

And it is important that all have a platform from which to speak.

As I understand this process you can link to this post and trackback to this post on ANY subject or post you think important. It is open. I will repeat this every Monday.

After standing with the D.C. Chapter at Arlington National Cemetery Monday morning to protest Cindy Sheehan's campaign rally there, two women whose husbands were killed serving in Iraq confronted Sheehan and her supporters outside Rep. John Conyers' office on Capitol Hill several hours later.

The two Gold Star wives stood in the hallway right outside the door to Conyers' office to rebuke Sheehan for betraying the sacrifices made by their husbands. Sheehan blew them off, raising and extending her right hand to ward them off as she approached the office and the assembled media horde. Sheehan's posse quickly surrounded the wives, led by turncoat Ann Wright, a retired Army Reserve colonel and former State Dept. official. While Wright tried to distract the wives by "dialoguing" with them, Code Pink's Medea Benjamin tried to drown them out and divert the media's attention by leading the Cindynistas in sing-song chanting. One of Sheehan's supporters told the wives to "shut up!"

The wives would not be deterred and stood their ground. They barely let Wright get a word in edgewise as they said their piece. Of course these women did not make the news, despite all the cameras that were filming. With the exceptions of scant mentions in the Washington Post and ABC News radio, the pro-victory Gold Star wives were deemed not newsorthy.

Even Fox News, the so-called 'fair and balanced' network, which had producer Griff Jenkins covering the story, blew off any mention of the Gold Star wives in their report on Brit Hume's Special Report broadcast last night.

The fourteen minute long video, filmed by Blue Star mother Mrs. Trooprally, who has a son serving in Iraq, captures the scene in the hallway as the Gold Star wives were repeatedly denied permission to go into Conyers' office while Sheehan was in there, even as the media and Sheehan supporters were routinely allowed in.

The video ends before Conyers' arrival and Sheehan's arrest at his office later that afternoon.

After leaving Capitol Hill, the Gold Star wives returned to Arlington National Cemetery to visit the grave where the husband of one of the wives is buried.

Vets for Freedom expresses disappointment that veterans were not able to meet with Congressional leadership from both sides of the aisle in Congress today. While many Republican Senators, including leadership, made themselves available for questions and input, interaction from Democratic leadership was noticeably absent. In spite of that, Vets for Freedom members remain committed to speaking with elected leaders on both sides of the aisle.

Republican leadership (and some Democrats, although not leadership) made room in their busy schedules—on very short notice—to speak with veterans. These veterans flew in on their own dime to ask Congress to give General David Petraeus the time he needs to fully implement the surge of American forces in Iraq. Veterans are very grateful and thankful for the time that these Senators took to spend with them.

Five days in advance of today's events, Vets for Freedom meeting requests—for 5 minutes—were submitted to the Majority Leader and the Speaker of the House. Repeated attempts were made to contact and meet with the Democratic leadership. "In the end, they made a disappointing decision to decline meeting with veterans who have first-hand knowledge of the situation on the ground" said Pete Hegseth, an Iraq War veteran and executive director of Vets for Freedom. "It is especially disappointing because Democratic leadership's misguided policy—a declaration of defeat—will lead to a national security disaster for the United States."
