Scientifically:
Scymnodon plunketi.
What To Look For:
This grey-brown dogfishhas 2 dorsal fins, each with a short spine,
and broad, rounded pectoral fins. Not much is known about this
shark except that it occurs in large schools at depths of between
500 and 700 m.
Size:
Males to 1.3 m; females to 1.7 m.
Distribution:
South-Eastern Australia and New Zealand.
Food:
Bony fish and squid.
Breeding:
Gives birth to as many as 36 pups per litter.
Danger To Humans:
Not known to be dangerous.
