Green Lanternshark


Scientifically:
Etmopterus virens.

What To Look For:
This very small, grey-brown lanternshark has black markings on the flanks. The dorsal fins have 2 spines, the second fin being larger than the first. This species is often found in large numbers, which suggests schooling habits and communal hunting. An entire school has been recorded attacking and eating squid that would have been too large for a single individual.

Size:
Up to 23 cm.

Distribution:
Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean.

Food:
Squid.

Breeding:
Not known.

Danger To Humans:
Too small to be dangerous.
