English Civil War
Welcome to my photo page of 25mm miniatures used in Warhammer Ancient Battles armies. My name is Vince Salvato and I've been wargaming for a long, long time. I started back in the early 70's with historical board games, published by Avalon Hill & SPI (anyone remember Tactics II). Many of these games were very complex and I got kind of tired of them. In the mid-80's I discovered Warhammer Fantasy Battle, the rules were straight forward, easy to learn and the miniatures were terrific. Since then I've collected and painted several fantasy armies.
Then, in 1998, WAB (Warhammer Ancient Battles) appeared and I immediately got hooked. These rules were even easier than WHFB (no magic) and it was based on historical stuff. Since then I have painted 4 new armies (EIR, ancient Indian, Hittite and Mongol) - many more are being planned.
Check back every once in a while, I am always adding photos of newly painted miniatures for armies that I am creating or reinforcing. You will also find many photos of Don Effinger's extensive miniature collection here. Additionally, I plan to post a page or two concerning tactics and hobby hints. And, for those interested (probably just me) all the army lists that I have used (or plan to use) in WAB tournaments will reside right here.
BTW, all the pages take, on average, about a minute to load with a 24k modem.
Trojan War - Miniatures painted by Don Effinger
Hittites - My Hittite Army has fought in two WAB tournaments
New Kingdom Egyptians - Take a look at Don Effinger's NKE army that also fought in the Fall-in 1999 tourney and Cold Wars (2000).
Here are photos of my Ancient Indians, if you like to darken the sky with arrows then this army is for YOU. I fought with this army in the very first WAB tourney held at Cold Wars 1999. I plan to bring a heavily reinforced Indian army to Fall In 2000.
Being some of the first pages I ever did for this web site, the Indian army section is going to be overhauled this year (2003). Stay tuned.
EARLY IMPERIAL ROMAN
My EIR army is constantly growing larger. Recently I've added Celt Cavalry pictures. I have never used this army in a HMGS WAB tournament.
I really like the Foundry Ancient Germans so I bought a bunch of these, I paint a few here and there for a change of pace.
My deadly Mongol army made it's first appearance at Historicon 2000
