Lawns

  • Plant fertilize and lime fescue lawns.
  • Apply winter conditioner fertilizer to Bermuda, centipede and zoysia lawns.
  • Apply fungicide to prevent or control Brown Patch.
  • Apply pre-emergent to control annual bluegrass (do not apply if seeding fescue).
  • Water during dry spells
  • Apply insecticides to control spittle bugs, grubworms, and fire ants.

Shrubs

  • Plant container grown shrubs this month.
  • Mulch plants to retain moisture.
  • Water as needed.
  • Shrubs with fall color: Nandina, Barberry, Sasanqua. Oak Leaf Hydrangea, Burning Bush, Ornamental Grasses, Pyracantha
  • Control insects and diseases on roses.
  • Water & fertilisze roses as needed.
  • Remove spent blooms from roses.

Trees

  • Plant container grown Trees.
  • Mulch trees to retain moisture and water as needed
  • Control powdery mildew on crepe myrtles with fungicide.
  • Plant container grown trees.
  • Trees with fail color: Dogwood, Red Maple, Sugar Maple, Ginkgo, River Birch. Red Oak. Flowering Pear

Annuals

  • Remove spent blooms.
  • Water and fertilize as needed.
  • Plant pansies, Ornamental Kate and Cabbage, Snap Dragons, Dianthus and Viola.

Perennials

  • Plant Garden Mums, Asters and other perennials.
  • Water and fertilize as needed.

Veggies

  • Plant broccoli, lettuce, cabbage, onions, collards, brussel sprouts, cauliflower, kale, radish, tumip, carrot and mustard.
  • Plant a winter cover crop in vacant areas.

Bulbs

  • Plant bearded iris.
  • Purchase fall bulbs while supplies are plentiful and store in a cool location. October and November are the best planting months.

Hummingbirds

  • Change "nectar" regularly.
  • Plant perennials and shrubs that attract hummingbirds.
