Thanks to Congressman Roger's newly formed tourism initiative called
SEKTDA, the Southern and Eastern Kentucky Tourism Development
Association, the Action Team obtained a $10,000 grant to hire an
architectural and engineering firm to do a feasibility study and draw up
renovation plans. We hired Hill, Tate, Jacobs out of Lexington--a
firm experienced in renovating old theater buildings such as the Leeds
in Winchester, and Arts Place in Lexington. We have been extremely
pleased with the work done by Susan Hill and her associates and have a
beautiful, full-color study in hand (click on the
thumbnails above and below for larger images) which pictures the
current condition of the theater, documents the results of a local
survey conducted by the Action Team (conducted with a $10,000 grant from
the National Endowment for the Arts) which provides input on uses of the
theater from close to 1,200 residents.
Ms. Hill also includes thoughts from each Action Team member on how they
would see the Lane used. Taking all this input and the comments of
the engineers who looked at the structure of the building and the heat,
air, and electrical systems, Ms. Hill drew up a plan for both the ground
floor and the second floor of the theater, including the two "side"
buildings which have been beauty shops for years.
