Henry Diary

Dear Diary,

Today was a very gloomy and rainy day yet very interesting.  After the Opera I ran into two very peculiar people.  Col. Pickering has been a man I have sought to meet as I respect him as a fellow linguist and I happened to stumble upon him today.  He is now staying with me for a while to share ideas and experiences.

Oh yes, I also met this strange flower girl.  I can't remember her name but Col. Pickering and myself had a little bet that I could turn this girl into a lady in just a few months. Quite a challenge it may seem but I know my skills are very capable in doing so.

Col. Pickering and myself did not end up taking the bet.  I did give the poor thing some money though so I hope she will be able to get by rather well for the time being.  Maybe Col. Pickering and myself will pay her a visit if we get bored.

Dear Diary,

The strangest thing has happened recently. The girl I spoke of early paid a visit to Col. Pickering and myself.  Her name is Eliza Dolittle and she has come to pay for phonetics lessons.  She is quite an interesting girl.

The Colonel and I decided to take up the bet again and we Eliza doing exactly as we say if she wants to become a lady.  She is quite sassy and has a real love for chocolates.  She often has tantrums and seems to be very upset with her progress.

I am not worried at all because I know that once the connection is made, the words will flow from her tongue like water from a river.   I think in about a week or two I will take her to the races and test her abilities there.  It will be a good lesson for the ball that is to come if she still wishes to become a lady.

Dear Diary,

Well, the training with Eliza is over.  I took her to the ball and she was absolutely marvelous.  She had everyone fooled, even the Queens own linguist.  Haha! Eliza really impressed me that night and I felt a connection with her that night.  It was really incredible.

However, Eliza threw quite a tantrum afterwards and has ran away.  She claimed that I never treat her like a lady as Col. Pickering does.  I am so frustrated right now that she has just ran off like this.  I am really worried about her and I feel as if I have made several mistakes.

I am very grateful this did happen though because it has opened my eyes.  Eliza is right about me and has surprisingly taught me something about myself.  I admit I have a problem with trusting and loving people but Eliza is become an exception.  I do not feel complete with out her in the house because I have grown so accustomed to her and have had so much fun.  I hope I find her soon.
