Eliza 5 Years Later

Five years after becoming a lady, Mrs. Eliza Higgins returned one sunny morning to the street she once sold flowers on.  As she strolled down the street, a flower girl caught her eye.  To Eliza's surprise this girl frighteningly reminded Eliza of her past.  Eliza approached the young girl who seemed to be in her late teens or even early twenties.  Eliza bought some flowers and the two got to talking.  The young girl had the same broken and messy English that Eliza had once had.

Eliza was looking at herself. Or at least she thought she was.  She was so touched that she asked the girl to tell about herself.  Her name was Elizabeth!  Elizabeth had blonde hair, blue eyes, and was very cute.  Elizabeth said that she had been selling flowers for about six months now.  Eliza asked Elizabeth if she would like to join her for lunch.  Elizabeth obliged and the two began the trip to 27 A Wimpole St.

On the carriage ride over, Eliza told Elizabeth about how she too was once a flower girl.  Elizabeth was dumbstruck because she had never met anyone who had gone from poverty to becoming a lady.  Eliza told Elizabeth she would tell Elizabeth more about it once they arrived at her house.  The excitement was evident in Elizabeth's eyes, maybe she too would have the wonderful opportunity of becoming a lady.

Once lunch was served, Henry had just arrived home in time to join them.  Henry too instantly saw the strikingly resemblance.  The three enjoyed the lunch and Elizabeth had thirds, evidently hungry!  Once Elizabeth had finished eating, she wasted no time asking questions.  Eliza answered all of them honestly and Elizabeth asked Eliza if she would teach her to become a lady.  Eliza was flattered and very excited.

Henry chuckled and quickly approved.  He knew not to disagree with Eliza now.  However he also thought it would be good for Eliza to spend some time with this girl.   Eliza was so happy to be returning the favor to someone who was in such a similar situation as she was.  Elizabeth new how lucky she was, and promised to work very hard.

Eliza made the arrangements the next day with Elizabeth's parents and they were all for it.  Elizabeth was in Eliza's hands for the next two months.  The coming two months will prove to be some very fun times for both women.  The upcoming ball would once again prove to be the major test.  Eliza obviously still has deep respect for the lower class as they were once her roots.
