Edward Carney with his 19lb 6oz carp

Carney’s Pools were dug out in the summer of 1987 by the late Harry Carney. Harry was a builder in the nearby town of Rugeley, Staffordshire, and it was with his foresight that has made the Carney Pools such a beautiful and tranquil setting. The pools were landlocked until January 2002, when they were put on line.

Damsel Pool is 1.3 acres, with a small island at the top end. There are 23 pegs on this pool, of which four are for disabled anglers. The depth is between 4 and 6 feet. The pool boasts both Common and Mirror Carp, Bream and Gudgeon.

Dragon Pool is 1.4 acres, and has an island at one end. The pool is fed by a run off waterfall from Damsel Pool. The pool is stocked with both Mirrors, Commons, Chubb and Rudd . Pictured above is Edward, the youngest son of Chris and Carol Carney, with the venue record of 19lb 6oz, caught from Dragon Pool in the summer of 2001. This fish fell at midday in bright sunlight, and was caught on a dog biscuit. Much bigger fish have been seen, but not landed.
