attended Buchholz (Gainesville, Fla.)
High where he was a first-team All-America selection and was named the
Gainesville Sun Area Offensive Player of the Year in 1995. He led Buchholz
to state semifinals in Class 5A. From 1996-99, Doug initiated 22 games for
nationally-ranked Florida Gators. In his 62 career scores Matthews (74,
1989-92) and Danny Wuerffel (114, 1993-96) threw more touchdown passes in
school history He accomplished 504 out of 907 attempts (55.6%) for 7,114
yards and was ranked sixth-best on school’s all-time charts, in his career.
As a student in the second year of his college he threw for seven touchdowns
in a single-game vs. Central Michigan and passed for 460 yards vs.
Vanderbilt. As a senior, he completed 190 of 337 passes for (56.4%) for
2,574 yards with 20 touchdowns in nine starts. He did his major in sports
management from Florida.

On 28th April,2004
, the Jaguars signed quarterback Doug Johnson as a free agent
contract.
In
his return to
Atlanta's starting schedule Doug Johnson completed 19-of-32 passes for 276
yards, two TDs, and one INT. On 23rd
November, 2003 , he lost his
starting job to Kurt Kittner for a few games, and was expected to stick onto
it until Mike Vick returned.
The Sports Network reported that Doug Johnson will get the
start quarterback for Atlanta as he takes over for struggling rookie Kurt
Kittner. On 19th November-2003
, Falcons' coach Dan Reeves said "As far as the quarterback is
concerned, we will start Doug Johnson, I like a lot of things that Kurt did,
but we just aren't getting the job done and maybe we'll see a change there
because we've gotten our running game the last couple of weeks.
