and at New Orleans Dec. 17 in continuous weeks with injuries to Chandler and
logged time in two other competitions, at Denver Sept.10 and at Oakland Nov. 26.
He
Opened the season as club’s third quarterback behind Chris Chandler and
Danny Kanell but added more to his credentials in the depth chart as season progressed.
He completed
11 of 17 passes (64.7%) for 85 yards with his first touchdown pass as a professional
and a passer rating of striking 96.4. He threw his first professional touchdown
pass of four yards to TE Brian Kozlowski to begin the fourth quarter. For third quarterback post in training camp
he beat out veteran Tony Graziani. He finished 36 of 67 passes for 406 yards with two touchdowns and three
interceptions and a passer rating of 63.4. Johnson took over for starter Chris
Chandler in fourth quarter and completed three of seven passes for 43 yards
in professional debut. He began the second half of the season at Oakland in relief of Chandler
(coaches' decision). He pitched a perfect strike between Oakland linebackers
Greg Biekert and William Thomas for the score. He also became the first
newcomer
quarterback player to initiate a game in the NFL in the 2000 season and received
the starting signal vs. Seattle. He completed 17 of 33 passes for 233
yards with one touchdown and two interceptions to break Chris Miller’s
newcomers' record for completions and yards and also started for second straight
competition at New Orleans but was replaced by Chris Chandler in
the second half. He finished five of 10 passes for 45 yards with one
interception and was dismissed four times in first half. He was referred a

In 2001Johnson was promoted to second-string
quarterback due to injury to Michael Vick (back) at Arizona on September 30.
He contested in three games in his second season and competed mainly as
third-string behind Chris Chandler and Michael Vick. He arrived in late in
the fourth quarter and rushed four times for 13 yards with a long of eight
yards to avoid run out the clock. He did not attempted a pass vs. Chicago,
and finished three of five passes for 23 yards with one touchdown and no
interceptions and rushed five times for 12 yards. He was promoted to
second-string quarterback due to injury to Michael Vick (back) at Arizona
on. He was named as a supporting quarterback vs. Dallas when Chris Chandler
could not play due to a rib injury and Michael Vick was raised to starter.
He was swapped with Vick in the second half on every series. He finished
three of four passes for 23 yards with a massive game-winning touchdown pass
to TE Brian Kozlowski with 5:28 remaining in the game in a 20-13 win. On
Dec. 2 vs. St. Louis he was rotated for a series with Michael Vick late in
the fourth quarter and Chris Chandler was knocked out of the game at the end
of the first half. He ended the season at St. Louis as a supporter to
starter Michael Vick when Chris Chandler (sprained elbow) could not start
