  The Graveyard

Coming SOON the Graveyard part 2

In Memoriam to Vishan Halfmoon, male elf Ftr5/Sor1, who felt very arrogant and cocky for being the single-handed slayer of the Black Skeleton in room G-7 (as the rest of the party was cowering in fear), led the way into the first level. Using his unerring ability to make beelines for trouble, he led the party straight to the "dung monster." Finding an intact, perfectly clean toilet seat piqued his curiosity and he decided to investigation, at which time the dung monster attacked, striking Vishan with a critical hit (!) and holding fast to him. Vishan put up a brave struggle against the beast, all the while wondering how the creature was shrugging off his magic missile spells (heh, heh!) and his swordblows. His nearest companions, Romana Winternight and Amathar, tried to help but Vishan was eventually engulfed and was expelled by the dung monster as a heap of bones. The party tried to avenge their late companion but were forced to make a run for it when even Amathar's most powerful spells failed to injure it. Vishan will be sorely missed. (Reported by: Drone32)

While the remainder of the party engaged the green gargoyles in noble combat, an invisible Jozan (a lover, not a fighter) put his talents to better use, opening the doors to the mausoleum, stepped inside, and began searching around. Cautiousness overcome by curiosity, the intrepid rogue activated the deathtrap and found himself locked alone in the mausoleum. As the maniacal black skeleton screamed, Jozan called for help to his allies still engaged in melee outside, yet to no avail. Realizing his life was measured in seconds as the roof came ever closer, Jozan steeled himself and analyzed his situation. The only place that would be safe as the roof came down would be inside the coffin with that... thing. Moving invisibly and silently, he crept into the coffin with the black skeleton moments before the heavy lid crashed down, stifling the rising panic within. Unfortunately, the skeleton was not caught unawares and Jozan's last act in this life was a feeble attempt to kick his opponent out of the coffin. The lid slammed shut on the two and had there been other ears to hear they would have made out the horrific screams of the unlucky rogue as he was disemboweled in the dark by the coffin's rightful occupant. When the party finally overcame the deathtrap, they opened the coffin and extracted Jozan's pathetic remains. Had it not been for the rather timely arrival of another (less-inept) Rogue, Jozan stood a good chance of being brought back from the dead. As it was, however, seeing that time and gold were short, he found his final resting place in an unmarked grave in the woods beyond the dungeon, with only the tears of a soft-hearted Druid to mourn him. (Reported by:Mathew Kleine)

Sage Triune, 9/2 Female Wood Elf Druid/Divine Disciple of Mielikki got dissolved by the Green Slime on Level 5 room 7. The whole party went in to investigate and search this apparently empty room and did not notice the Green slime covered roof. Everybody got dropped on, but all managed to cut and burn the stuff before it did too much damage. Everyone except Sage that is... Hahahahahah! (followed by an evil roar).(Reported by: DarthVava)

Kramodar the Unlucky Level 6 Human Male Fighter. Called the 'Unlucky' because his number came up everytime a random roll was made to see who got attacked first (and because his player volunteered him everytime a dangerous thing was to be done. i.e. Kramodar opens that door, Kramodar kisses the statue in R2-47. Well, Kramodar was first to examine the dead bodies in The Crypt on Level 2 (room 2-4), failed both his Spot check and Wisdom check and started losing Constitution scores like crazy because of the burrowing grubs. Not knowing what the heck was going on, he started to run full speed heading to the surface, with Minga the half-orc cleric of Gruumsh following loyally behind pumping lesser restorations into him. Well, the cleric ran out of Lesser Restorations and Kramodar ran out of constitution points simultaneously on the stairs leading to Level 1. Oh, well, a noble death nevertheless. (Reported by: DarthVava)

Tealeaf Bigsby Level 6 Female Halfling Rogue. Got ripped to shreds by dire wolves in the wilderness while on a quest to hunt down Simrath the Vampire. Resurrected, and Level 7/1 Rogue/Illusionist, she was ripped apart by the Displacer Beasts in 3A-4. What's up with her and wild animals? Then, 7/3 Rogue Illusionist, she was electrocuted by the will-o-wisps on Level 6 The Wisp Lair. (Reported by: DarthVava)

Forkbeard Smith Level 3/4/3/1 male Dwarf Ranger/Fighter/Rogue/Cave Stalker (a very versatile fighter type, with spells, favorite enemy, weapon specialization AND evasion and sneak attack ability), named for the fact that his beard is forked and his profession is Weaponsmith, was fried by Banth's summoned fire elemental. The party (Kramodar the Unlucky, Minga the cleric of Gruumsh, Sage Triune the Druid, Tealeaf Bigsby the Rogue, Ametrine the Wizardess, and Forkbeard Smith, all 11 and 10th level) found Banth's lair and made short work of the zombies and the flesh golem. They eventually found the secret door to Banth's bedroom (being previously rather spooked by the toy bear on Kupra's bed - nice touch!) and proceeded inside the long corridor to Banth's place. Banth, well prepared, unleashed his elemental in that narrow corridor. The party ran, the cowards that they are, but the dwarf didn't run fast enough and got burned to cinders by the secret door to the Lab. (Reported by: DarthVava)

Minga the Orc 11th Level unknown gender half-orc Cleric of Gruumsh, suffered Forkbeard’s fate when it foolishly stopped running from the elemental and tried to drag the Dwarf's crispy corpse away. Just shows you that a good deed never goes unpunished. The party is still trying to determine (unsuccessfully) whether Minga is a boy or a girl half-orc, but oh man, all that body hair. They actually paid close attention during the True Resurrection process but didn't get a clue. Man, what a bunch of good-for-nothing losers. Two 11th level characters smoked by a CR 7 elemental. What a waste. (Reported by: DarthVava)

Forkbeard Smith Level 3/4/3/1 male Dwarf Ranger/Fighter/Rogue/Cave Stalker got devoured by Revirax' full round attack on the second round of combat against the guardian of the Gates of Hell. The party was very surprised when the puppy put in over 100 hit points into the dwarf in a round. The dwarf was surprised as well...(Reported by: DarthVava)

Minga the Orc 11th Level unknown gender half-orc Cleric of Gruumsh, and Ametrine, 11th level human female wizard, shared a nasty death when the jelly from one of the maze sections on Level 6 got them. The party still hasn't figured out how to fight those jellies and now simply runs from them. Experimentation in fighting styles didn't turn out so well, as the two concurrent deaths attest. (Reported by: DarthVava)

Tealeaf Bigsby Female halfling 7/3 Rogue Illusionist, Sage Triune Female Wood Elf 9/2 Druid/Divine Disciple, Forkbeard Smith Level 3/4/3/1 Dwarf Ranger/Fighter/Rogue/Cave Stalker, and Ametrine the 11 Level human wizard all met grizzly deaths at the hands, no, minds, of the Illithids in the Illithid shrine on Level 7. After finally ending Revirax's guard career the party got confused by the teleporters and ended up in front of the iron doors to the Illithid shrine. The rogue failed to get the doors open, so the wizard dissolved it with two melf's acid arrows, giving the Illithids inside sooo many rounds to prepare. When the doors dissolved the party got to see squiggly tentacles writhing behind the stone pillars. The Cleric and Fighter in the party beat the Illithid's initiative and promptly skedaddled thereby saving their lives. The rest weren't that lucky (you’re gonna miss at least one saving throw when hit by 6 mind blasts in a row). The Mind Flayers didn't really like the dwarf's brain (a bit too tough), but they found the wood elf's and halfling's a delicacy. This group is quickly running out of True Resurrection funds. (Reported by: DarthVava)

Gunthak the Dense(Half-Orc Bar5, Int of 6!) Survived the adhesive might of the fecal fiend (and the superior intelligence of virtually every creature in the dungeon) only to succumb to a bad case of lycanthropy. The party fled the meat grinder and thought themselves safely in the clear when Gunthak came down with a severe five o’clock shadow, courtesy of the wererats in level 1. Unfortunately, the rest of the party had to lash were-Gunthak to a tree. When he attempted to summon dire-rats to aid his escape, Gunthak was summarily stabbed in the head with the very rapier he took from Fiilaar. The man responsible for the mercy killing, Scar the Elven Arcane Archer wannabe, felt some guilt over the incident, but when questioned replied in a cobra-commander voice: “He wasss alwaysss being outsssmarted by the party’s mountsss. He wasss more of a liability, really.” It was a very John Steinbeck moment. “Tell me ‘bout the rabbits, Scar…” (reported by : Dan Lamson)

An unusual entry as this person has been dead before. The gnomes of the Clan of the Badger would like to say byeeee to SARAK the really scary and bloody hard to finish off skeletal lord. His destruction was sweet revenge for the slaying of our dear and departed cousins, Zook and Jouka (see previous entry). The fact that he was accompanied by the mummified remains of the previous party only made it all the more poignant. Ever since nicking the Magical Mirror of Bank Robbery the gnomes have been pillaging Rappan Athuk like a child in a sweetie shop. It started with the bagging of the oh so high and mighty oracle - try being smart inside a sack mate - and continued with the dismantling of two golden doors and the carting away of SARAK's throne - tee hee hee. Now what are we going to do with all these clerical robes lads? What's that we need a pet demon for the burrow? Long Live the Badger!(Reported by: Trevor Spence)

Today we mourn the deaths of 7 characters; Belflin the hunter of Freya (Elven Ranger/Cleric/Rogue 2/3/3), Li the Rock (Human Monk/Sorcerer/Fighter 3/2/2), Dougal Macleod (Dwarven Pal 2 ex-bard 3), Uruk Half Orc BarbarianRanger Level 3/2, Krom (Human Barbarian/Rogue 3/2) Zook, brother of Farkle, (Gnome Wizard/Rogue 4/2) and Jouka, brother of Farkle (Gnome ex-Monk/Fighter 1/4) both of Clan Hurp Macdaergal. All of whom fell in two days of massacre, hereafter known as Bloody Saturday. First to die were Uruk and Krom, who had wandered into the graveyard in the search of treasure, only to be attacked by the gargoyles. Belflin and the rest arrived in time to see Uruk dropped from a great height by a pair of gargoyles. In the meantime Krom the mighty had forced his way into one of the side crypts, sealed the door shut against the gargoyles and breathed a sigh of relief, only to find himself sharing the same crypt as 6 ghouls. Fortunately the solid walls meant no one else could hear his terrible screams. Belflin and the party had, however, after much research and great expense, brought the means to destroy the gargoyles - an act for which all future explorers of Rappan Athuk will be grateful. They were also in time to find the man with no name cowering in his own open grave. It came as no surprise to anyone to find that the man with no name was in fact the half brother of Sarandor the victim. Undaunted the party, guided by Belflin who had now trod these halls far too many times, descended to a mysterious golden door. We found the door sealed and virtually impossible to open. However the gods were on (or not?DM) our side and by two miraculous rolls of the die Zook defeated the complex locking mechanisms. As we opened the second door, which opened into a chilled tomb, little did we realise that we were stepping into our own tomb. Within two rounds the majority of the party had fled in great fear of what we found within, except for Sarandor who fled because that's what he does. Only three heroes were left to face the undead lord, Belflin, Li and Dougal. Bravely they fought but to no avail, as one by one they fell beneath its mighty sword. Nor had those who fled had any better luck, for lurking in the darkness was Jarvik the wererat and his dire rat followers, seeking revenge for our slaughter of the pack on the level above. Zook was quick to die, lost in the darkness, torn to pieces by the rat pack. Followed soon after by his kin, Jouka, the third Hurp Macdaegal to die in the dungeons. Sarandor, for once, stood his ground and wielded his wand of burning hands to great effect, incinerating the rat pack and driving Jarvik back into the darkness, to lick his wounds again. Exhausted but elated by victory Sarandor summoned Light to study the dead rats before him, but in that light he saw something far more terrible, for the Undead Lord had, by now. finished the three heroes and his thirst for life was not yet quenched. The end came mercifully quickly. Only Cedric, Druid of Fairhill, returned to that fair village the following morning to break the sad news to a tearful Shandril of Belflin's death. Freya had lost one of her sons. From Fairhill messages were sent far and wide, informing family and friends of the fallen. Such a message reached the halls of Clan Hurp MacDaergal, where great was the gnashing of teeth and pulling of hair. In that hour the, otherwise peaceful, gnomes swore revenge upon the dungeon of Rappan Athuk and vowed that they would not rest until every stone in the place was destroyed. In a sacred meeting each donned the cloak of the badger and was marked by the sacred claw. The Clan of the Badger had been formed! As for what happened to the man with no name, no one knows, or cares, he disappeared from the annals of history, unnoticed.(Reported by: Trevor Spence)

Farkle the Mad Gnome fighter level 6 and William the rather square Paladin Level 6 with a big sword ooer! both ended up catty litter after the party decided to explore a rather large cave. The Dm's continual insistence that we could hear water only resulted in some of the party leaving the table to go to the toilet. In their absence she struck, suddenly we found ourselves surrounded by 8 shifty looking big cats with a major hair problem. Belfin, "I'm just one level short of arcane archer", was heard to cry "oh wonderful I'm going to die in the company of mere humans." The party fought heroically, with the exception of Sarandor who fled heroically, discovering the value of a potion of levitation in a crisis, but things did not look good as first Helman and then Larissa (new girl level 5 swashbuckling pirate and Belfin's personal tip to be next in line for the Fairhill farewell ceremony) fell. Belflin, Li and William fought on back to back having accounted for three of the beasts. Farkle was locked in a tooth and claw battle with one of the beast, which he was losing badly until inspired by cries of "get on with it Farkle were dying over here" slew the beast in two mighty max power attack blows. The party will never forget the look of victory upon Farkle's face as he stood over the slain beast or the look of surprise as a tentacle erupted out of his chest, the result of a instant kill roll by the Dungeonmistress. The party always be haunted by the girlish titter of amusement that came from behind the DM screen. In a fury of rage and general yells of "nooooooooooo" the remaining trio slew the remaining cats, though William died in that last heroic body. William's body now lies in gentle repose upon the altar in Fairhill, awaiting the time when we find the elusive elixir of life. Farkle unfortunately looked like a catnip toy post cat and will be no more. The quest goes on! PS what's the quest again? (Reported by: Trevor Spence)

Ebla the Drunken Dwarf (Level 5 Fighter) dissolved on the first level of Rappan Athuk. Ebla's demise came as the battered party (see the entry for Helman) staggered back up the stairs from the second level having been nastily surprised by Black Skeletons. The party, guided by the wise and bloody brave Belflin, cautiously snuck and then ran past the $#!% monster and reached the Mausoleum only to find that the cruel but beautiful DM had sealed the door. Caught between resting in a room where they were likely to wake up with a severe headache and the thing from below the party unwisely chose to test their mettle and bring fire and sword to bear, fully expecting to give the blob a lesson in hygiene. Unfortunately it was the party that was taught a lesson, at the cost of one dwarf, who did not die in vain, for the rest of the party were able to slip past while he was digested. At least she went out as she would of wanted wasted and lying on the floor in a puddle.

The party vows to return - but not before we hunt down the game designer who put that creature in!

ps congratulation to Sarandor Bard/Sorceror/Victim for surviving yet another near death experience. Belflin should have known better than to let you stray more than 10' away from the rest of the party (Reported by: Trevor Spence)

Helman the Halfling (known as Mayo to her friends) Rogue (level 5) died in the first level of Rappan Athuk. Unfortunately for the party - Fargle a 5th level Gnome fighter, Ebla a 4th level inebriated dwarf, Lee a 4th Level Monk, William a 5th Level Paladin/Fighter and Sarandor Bard/Sorceror/Victim, their mentor and guide Belflin the Hunter, chosen of Freya, wielder of the holy sword Valkyrie by divine right (i.e. every other potential wielder died), had stopped to investigate a secret door. The noble William and ignoble Farkle, upon finding a lady in distress, immediately rushed to her aid only to find their charity spurned and themselves set upon by rats. The lady herself shocked all by transforming herself into a (quite tasty looking according to Farkle) werecreature. The lady's dust of choking and sneezing laid out most of the party and caused Helman's death. Fortunately the timely rearrival of Belfin, after slaying one rather suprised Ghast, and the efforts of Sarandor who, with his Pipes of the Sewers vested for control of the rats, turned the fight the party's way. Lee recovered to use his wand of ghoul touch to good effect and the werecreatures were sent scuttling back to the holes from whence they had came. Leaving a blue halfling choked to death upon her own vomit and a heart broken and badly 'love?' bitten Farkle. Fortunately all's well that end's well as, with the proceeds of the Ghast's savings, the party were able to raise Helman back from the dead. Sarandor later recovered consciousness. (reported by : Trevor Spence)

Jacob, Paladin of Torm (FR deity) died at the hands of Saracek. Lawful good characters do NOT like his sword. He actually got lucky. Saracek missed the first two rounds with power attacks AND smite. In the end Saracek did for him anyway.(reported by: Scotty Davis)

FlayHuman Male 11th Level Devoted Defender. Poor Flay. Ever since entering the group, he was in love with the female twins, Cami and Cari, both of elven stock, and neither of whom required his "protection". Needless to say, poor Flay succumbed to his heart's misguided efforts to protect the elven ladies and was subsequently devoured by an Illithid on the 6th level of The Dungeon of Graves (RA-2). Whilst sallying forth to spend his time on the night watch while the remainder of the group slept, our poor Flay was suddenly and violently hit with a mind blast which rendered him useless for 6 rounds. Before any of the party could recover, a total of 4 Illithids and 10 adventurers went at it, with another 5 of the group being stunned for 5 rounds. Thankfully, one of Flays' adventuring partners was a psionic warrior, and was able to defeat the Illithids with the help of the more hearty in the group. Alas, the Illithid who struck Flay was able to enjoy a large serving of "sweet bread", made from Flay's brain.(Reported by: Webmaster (not me !)

The party was six third level adventurers, they bested the rats in the rat holes and they found the key to the mausoleum, they bested the gargoyles although they were quite damaged. After resting they went into the mausolem and woke up the black skeleton. In the first round during the surprise round Vivarin Nodaz the human barbarian, and Olgah the half Orc sorceress were paralized with fear for 18 rounds by the screech. Sithicas the Elven Monk, Ozbourne Tealeaf the halfling rogue, Janadar the Holy cleric of Thyr, and the psychic warrior Ellian stood six rounds with the skeleton toe to toe not one of them scoring a single hit, and sithicas fumbled with a natural "1" four times. Ellian during the fith round withdrew from the fight just as in the sixth round the skeleton dropped all three of the other party members! Ellian ran for his life and the skeleton slew his other two sniveling friends.(Reported by: Issac)

Tarturo, Human male Cleric, 5th-level and Linanel, Elf male Fighter, 5th-level - Tarturo and Linanel were unfortunate victims of a purple worm in the cavern on level 3. Both Linanel and Tarturo fought valiantly, slaying one worm with the rest of the 8 character party before finally being gulped down by a second worm. They each managed to survive for one round inside the worm but were unable to claw their way out. To add to the party's misery, two of their dwarven henchmen were also swallowed down by the same worm (both were 3rd-level Warriors). That was one happy worm with a full belly! All in all, it was a good day for me the DM; it's not often I manage to kill half the party in the span of 10 minutes! :-). (Reported by : Steven A cook)

Zorn Verlin (Male Human Wizard 7) Met his match at the hands of his party's psychic warrior only seconds after discovering the tricky vrock was really just an illusion. Ho ho ho! He was the proud recipient of a critical hit with a magic scythe. Those do x4 damage. Poor Zorn absorbed 58+ points of decapitation damage. The fun part was the apologizing when they got him raised. (Reported by: Aquarius )

Gravis Called-The-Holy-One (Male Human Cleric 5) Webbed and reeled in by spiders on level 6A, then dropped from the silk bridge and reeled in again. Caught a fireball, took one for the team, and fell from the bridge 80 feet as well as the fire damage. Arrivaderci. (Reported by: Aquarius)

Bailey Valleywort Male Ranger 2) Tried blackmailing the high-priest on dungeon level 4 by threatening to drop the Book of Vile Darkness into the lava. Failed his save on the slay living, fell into the lava, and promptly endured combustion of the most "heroic" variety. (Reported by: Aquarius )

It is with sad and yes bitter tears that i report the death of Dungie!! yes it is true ...the foul beast is no more...turned into a giant puddle of green slime and then burned out of existence by Alanok, high priest of Trithereon (Reported by: Mark )

Sedrick Male Hobgoblin Paladin 6 - Told his party to hang back while he searched for the cause of the awful smell. Upon enter what appeared to be a makeshit lavotory, Sedrick detected a powerfully evil toilet seat cover. Bravely he charge at the evil device and vainly struck it only to be consumed by a shapeshifting pile of refuse. He friends said a silent prayer and decided not to investigate. (Reported by: Mark )

Burnie (8th Level Cleric) - Bludgeoned to death by the party's barbarian dwarf with a large hammer. Didn't help that the dwarf thought he was flighting a Vrock demon at the time. The dawrf then proceeded to try the same thing on the party's magician who actually had the common sense to run away.(Reported by Phill Steele )

Fiddler (5th Level fighter/1st Level Rogue) - Heard there was a powerful illusionist in the upper levels. On meeting his first purple worm he stood bravely and tried to disbelieve it while the rest of the party ran --- worm food. (Reported by : Phill Steele)

Valerian (2nd level Human Ranger/Fighter) The Party had just defeated the Green Gargoyles and Valerian was almost taken up and dropped. He survived, but not for too long. The valiant Ranger would soon meet his death. The party opened the door to the crypt with the key they had found and were soon attacked by the black skeleton... it screamed and most of the party ran with fear, as the evil undead creature hacked Valerian down with two sword strikes. The party when it got the balls, returned to see if Valerian survived, only to find the Skeleton holding his liver... what was left of Valerian was painted on the walls of the crypt. We were not amused. (Reported by: Kraig)

Kun-Chao, A monk who stayed alone in the "Ogre room" at level 2 as his group tried to defeat them from the door, not noticing how badly Kun-Chao was wounded, he was brought from 2 hp to -11 hp in one hard stike of an ogre club... (Submitted by Torsten)

Thornaxe (Male Human Fighter2/Paladin5/Ranger1)Possibly the toughest warrior in the party, Thornaxe was Zelkors first choice for domination. He almost impaled the groups thief on his sword before slicing his own throat. (submitted by : Gamecat)

Ashrem (Male Halfling Rogue8) The peridot that was Zelkor's phylactery unfortunately housed Ashrem's soul when the players destroyed it. No resurrection for that boy.(submitted by : Gamecat)

Sharn (Male Elf Druid8)Once Zelkor had control of Sharn's body, he politely walked up to one of the Iron golems and let it grab him and slam him into the wall til his brains were so much goo. (submitted by : Gamecat)

Dogood(Male Dwarven Cleric5) Scramge's illusions are especially wicked, for they target the glue that holds a party together, the healer. Dogood, in Scramge's Vrock guise, was summarily dispatched by his own party... the party was horrified when they saw what they had done... however, I had kept my promise, for I had said to the players that night that I wouldnt kill one of them. And I was right, because they killed themselves. (submitted by : Gamecat)

Jerry(Male Halfling Thief4) Alas, poor Jerry... he was a halfling with a bright future. A brave lad as well, for it was him who tried to save the party from the "shit" monster by leaping into it with two vials of poison... unfortunately for him dungie chewed him up and spit him out. To reward his selfless and foolhardy attack, the party retreated. (submitted by : Gamecat)

Adrianna Chrysies(Female Half-elven Fighter3/Wizard3) Adrianna was ripped to shreds by an umber hulk with an attitude... though not a technical death, for she wore a ring of regeneration, it bears mentioning here because the sight of seeing her torn apart affected the party so... (submitted by : Gamecat)

Cannon Fodder (Hastily made Male Elven Fighter 3)- After his entire party was stunned by Filaar's Dust of sneezing and choking, Cannon took it upon himself to try to save them all. A heroic act, and admirable self sacrifice, for as he was frantically beating dire rats off of his half gnawed comrades, he was slain by an arrow to the head from the vindictive wererat, Filaar, whom he had gashed pretty good earlier with his +1longsword... (submitted by : Gamecat)

Phadian Longreach (Male Half-elf Sorcerer 3)- Having completely exhausted his spells on earlier encounters with a Gelatinous cube and a roving pack of ghouls, Phadian was just suggesting a nice rest for the party to regain hitpoints and spells when they were ambushed by Filaar and her band. He decided to run forward and try to help the fighters when Filaar unleashed her magical dust. The poor bastard was gnawed to death by dire rats nice and slow like, hacking and coughing between his ragged screams....(submitted by : Gamecat)

Silvermane (Male Dwarven Fighter4)- This noble and humble dwarf met his end as many warriors would wish to... in the heat of battle. Stunned by Filaar's wicked dust, Silvermane was thought to be an early loss as he was swarmed by dire rats and wererats alike. But, no matter how much they stabbed and bit, he would not fall. Even when he regained his senses and his comrades fell all around him, he did not turn tail and flee. Instead he screamed out his greatest war cry and leaped at the nearest wererat, severely wounding it with his greataxe. Live or die, Silvermane would not leave his friends. Unfortunately, endless bravery is not immune to cold hard steel The wererats took advantage of his sudden attack to outflank him and pierce him to the core with their swift and bloody rapiers. However, as the only survivor of the party lived to tell, when Silvermane fell, blood streaming from his lips... he was smiling. (submitted by : Gamecat)

After feeling good about defeating Saracek, the party ended up making it to Level 3. They made a miraculous search check and found the secret door leading to the Arch-Mage's tomb atop the stone formation (rm 3-3). The party consisted of 5 characters all of whom had an average level of 10, none of whom made their savings throws vs. insanity. The entire party was turned instantly insane, turning on each other and finally meeting their demise below to the Purple Worms...Needless to say, I was not popular as a DM that night. Heh heh heh.

"N" was a 6th level fighter helping his party fight black skeletons at the start of level 2 when his rogue friend took off to loot while the party was distracted.  She found Marthek the insane barbarian and ran back, trailing the berserker.  N stood up to the new threat and the session ended then.  The next week we start again and the first roll was Marthek taking N's head off with a double critical.  One resurection later, they head back and find Sarecek the skeleton warrior.  N heads to the front and brings Sarecek down to 5 HP before taking over 100 points in one hit. "I've got +17 to hit, I can afford to be cocky." (reported by: ArkhamA )

Scurge, Hobgoblin Paladin. Perished at the hands of green gargoyles after claiming he could 'catch up' with the party and enter RA by himself. hehhehheh (evil dm grin :)). (Reported by : Necrolagnia).

Wood work, elven rogue, destroyed by green slime AFTER being warned that it was covering a rat carcass. (Reported by : Necrolagnia).

kjoor, elven rogue, burned, impaled, dissoleved and beaten to death by the 'shit monster" . (Reported by : Necrolagnia).

The Unnamed Rogue, The player had just finished rolling him up, and jumped in on level one of RA. The party was running from the dung monster and he ran with them. They were ambushed by wererats, and so died the unamed rogue. (Reported by : Necrolagnia).

Thorgrim Ironfist, Dwarven fighter/cleric: Bludgeoned to death by Ambro the Ogre and his buddies after he and 1 other character moved into the room and had the door closed behind them. Winning initiative isn't always a good thing. Their was a grave stone with his name on it waiting for him just outside in the graveyard. (Reported by : Carl).

Kanen (aka. K9) Ironfist, 7th level Dwarven ranger, and brother of recently deceased Thorgrim, killed by Saracek the skeletal warrior just 2 rooms after loosing his brother. The rest of his party, minus the great willed pixie, ran away frightened by the very presence of Saracek, but K9 couldn't run fast enough and saraceks mighty greatsword of wounding did more than wound him. R.I.P. you slow fool. (Reported by : Carl)

Jade  half-orc Fighter/Rogue 4/1 ... One of two half-orcs in the party, both of which were turned into wererats from an encounter only days before. Jade was killed in wererat form by fellow party member Bethain. The other party member turned wererat survived to kill two other party members. (Reported by : Joe)

Bethain halfling Cleric 5 ... Worn down with her fight with Jade, Bethain fell to the second wererat while keeping guard during camp … if she had only awaken Kyree during her fight with Jade. (Reported by : Joe)

Kyree half-elf Sorcerer 5 ... Sleeping through the combat Bethain had with Jade, Kyree awoke just as his cleric friend fell to the second wererat. (Reported by : Joe)

Dentrue human Rogue 5 ... Killed before the wererat attack. Having navigated the spiked-ball-o-death between rooms 2-3 and 2-4 with matrix-like ease, Dentrue was infested with no less than three rot grubs before camping ... and didn't notice. Ten minutes later, Dentrue began coughing up blood and lost 4 Con. Bethain cast lesser restoration on Dentrue which only restored 2 of his lost Con. but the crew thought they were out of the woods. After 10 more minutes of coughing up blood, Dentrue's Con dropped to 3, minimizing his hit points to 1 / level, or 5. Bethain had been infested with the vermin earlier and noticed them in time to cut the worms out, and this became her plan for Dentrue. Dentrue's symptoms suggested that his infestation was located in his chest. Bethain gave Dentrue a stick to bite down on, laid him in the casket that previously held the infested female corpse, and cut Dentrue from neck to gut to neck in an oversized U shape. He immediately passed out from the pain and subsequently died when Bethain pealed his skin over his head to "get a better look". (Reported by : Joe)

Our infernal news service has been hot on the crystal ball this morning as they reveal that the meat grinder dungeon Rappan Athuk is in full swing.  Dozens of fresh graves have appeared outside the dungeon this past month showing that the greed of adventurers knows no bounds. (a few entries together in a "log"-form, Fun-------webmaster)

"Jack" the new party rogue took an early lead as the party was delighted to have someone else to set off traps.  Having recently joined the party he was informed that there were some very nasty orcs in the neighborhood.   Being confident in his Ftr1.Rogue5 abilities he strode confidently forward only to run into two of said clerics.  "They are only level 2" his player muttered under his breath as he tried to preemptively death strike the cleric with some love of his own.  One melee touch attack later and the poor elf is now sleeping with the fishes.

As the intrepid party rounds the corner the new monks are reveling in their boots of striding and springing which allow them to tear around the dungeon and spy on the baddies.  It also puts them safely in the rear of the party after a spring attack.  So when a 5th level cleric of Orcus and his two minions attack they are relatively ineffective in the amounts of damage they hand out, but safe in the rear with the gear when the enemy wants to strike back.  Unfortunately brave Ashrem the CN human barbarian is caught in the corner when he pursues the level 5 cleric.  An accidental glance at the module reveals that the cleric death touch in this case is not 2d6, but 5d6!!!! A hideously broken concept according to all players and the not so sympathetic DM.  5d6 later and Ashrem's heart stops beating.  Suddenly like.

What ensues next is a horrible example of a party gone wrong... or totally frustrated by the fortunes (and lack thereof) they have found in Rappan Athuk.  An interparty squabble leads to the division of loot from the last few dead party members and the hated plans to pay the tax collectors when they return to town.  The party has been joined by a new Cleric and Wizard.  Emboldened by their success they reluctantly share the loot with the newcomers as the realize that being greedy at this point will only slow them down.  (He he).   The party rounds the corner into the lair of Scramge encountering a scene of total carnage.  Blood spilled all around, a broken mace, scroll paper, and a body prepared for a burial do not bode well.  The not so brave any more party moves up to a doorway on the opposite side of the room and listens for a round.  They hear the sounds of combat, snarls, growls, howls, and a man's voice calling on his god to hold back the foul creatures.  After a round of indecision they decide to go in.  Blackjack the Cleric/Ftr 4/2 is first in to see a priest beseiged by werewolves in the far reaches of the room.  The air before him and the party shimmers as Blackjack disappears and pops up halfway across the room towards the werewolves!  In his place appears a foul Vrock demon which stretches its arms out and screams in harsh vulturic eagerness.  Unbeknownst to the party this is really poor Blackjack cloaked in illusion.  As the apparent Blackjack runs for cover in one half of the room, one of the party monks runs to his aid, the others immediately assail and slay the demon over the course of the next several rounds.   Blackjack's player then does a game portrayal of the illusion covered Scramge running for cover, then struggling out of his armor at an apparent irritation for the next several rounds.

At the death of the demon, Scramge  next covers the new party wizard with the demon illusion and gives the appearance of the wizard Japheth (Elf 6) bound to the wall in the back of the room.  All this in punishment for the fireball which has just silenced all of the illusionary wolves, real jackalweres.  With his mighty 36 hit points and lower armor class Japtheth appears to be a puzzlingly weaker demon.  He wisely attempts a dispel magic only having it fizzle.  The party of course can not know this and sees only the failed attempt of a demon to summon more of its kind...Poor Japheth who slayed the party cleric rounds before is taken out by the party monk.

Fanshen the wizard (Elf 6)  is next targeted for the illusion treatment.  Being decidedly weaker than Japheth, after finding out what happened to the other two party members she casts a sleep spell on herself, forgetting that elves are immune to enchantment.  All to no avail as the forgetful DM allows her to sleep the ruthless Scramge continues the illusion of her activity.  At this point one of the monks tells the party to use subdual damage on the demon because he thinks that new demons appearing are triggered by the death of a previous one.   He proceeds to pummel the poor wizard to death with an overkill of subdual damage.  Spurred on perhaps by the apparent casting of a magic missile at the party fighter by the struggling to stay awake demon.   From this point Scramge reveals himself and revels in the ineffectiveness of the remaining party to hurt him.  Tiring of the game he retires to his chambers and the party wisely flees the scene.    To be continued we are sure.... Solanis Mage 4th level. Killed outside the dungeon, blew a gargoyle to bits and collected the lot on and opened tomb (looted only moments before hand). Got to the first level fo the dungeon, came out and had a rest. While speaking to the main fighter he failed to notice the gargoyle in the tomb had reformed, it grabbed him, dragged him into the tomb and closed the lid on it and the helpless mage. When the fighters finally managed to get the lid off the poor mage was so much gargoyle dropping. (Reported by : Paul)

Keldar, dwarven fighter, after being swallowed by a purple worm, Keldar managed to cut his way out using his spiked shield (that's right, it's a small piercing weapon!). While trying to flee the scene, however, he was snatched up again and fatally mauled.(Reported by : Todd)

Geod, half-orc barbarian, was mauled and swallowed by a purple worm. Although the intrepid warrior was magically teleported out of the gizzard by a companion, he died from his wounds before first aid could be administered. (Reported by :Todd)

Ipswich - Halfling Sorcerer. This brave little guy marched right up to the 90 ft. cliff despite ominous growls coming from nearby. Within 12 seconds, he was pummeled to death by the clawed tentacles of 3 displacer beasts, then ripped limb from limb. (Reported by : Todd)

Lia Nightbreeze, 7th level Elven Fighter: Bitten, grabbed, swallowed whole and then squeezed and burnt by stomach muscles and acid till she could no longer take; Death. The only why out is to climb, she's not strong enough, or to cut through the stomach with a small edged weapon, she had none. Zed (no last name), 3rd/3rd Elven Fighter/Sorcerer: Suffered the same fate as the recently departed Lia only he had no where near as many hit points left after being swallowed and had no chance of attempting to cut his way out with his mighty (hehehehe) dagger.(Reported by : Tracy)

Miranda: level 4 Elven Bard-Her party having fallen victim to the Wererat ambush in a textbook manner, the poor bard had bad luck on her Fort saves against the Dust of Coughing & Sneezing. Having lost 12 Temporary Constitution points to the Dust (and only having a 10 Con!) she died in a fit of violent coughing and asphixiation. (Reported by : Chris)

Ivelios - Elf Ftr3/Rge3. After several objections from the rest of the party, this curios rogue decided to climb down Dungie's latrine and scoop up any treasure he might find. Dungie sprang up from the muck, grappled Ivelios, and engulfed him all in a matter of 2 rounds. A valiant attempt to save the poor sod almost resulted in the rescuer being engulfed as well. The last thing the overly curious rogue saw was his party members heading for the hills (with his dropped belongings no less!).(Reported by : Chris)

Bukaboom, Level 9 Paladin, Died at the hands of Saracek, the Undead Blackguard, whose greatsword was slightly upgraded (to a +3 mecurial greatsword). A nasty critical hit delivered 108 hit points of damage in a single round. Ouch... (Reported by : Michael)

Laucian, lvl 10 rogue, flew to the roof of the mausoleum and promptly got attacked by eight green gargoyles. Their paralyzing claws teared into his flesh and being unable to resist this insidious venom he fell from the sky to the graveyard floor. Before his companions could properly react to this menace, his rigid body was ripped to pieces and the gargoyles fled to the winds. I figured one brutal kill would impress my players more than a long drawn out fight, hence the gargoyles flight. (Reported by : Daemonictutor)
