Welcome to my Hobbies Page

Below you will see a selection of models, some kits, some altered kits, and some own designs,
And having two young grandsons the call for mending toys or making new ones is endless.
But I think that's what Dads and grandads are made for.
Some Models I buy from model shops some I get from W HOBBY LTD in South Norwood,
some of them I alter or adapt or add to, sometimes I just buy the plans and different materials and build them,
or I just design my own models, and buy working parts such as solar panels wheels and axles etc.

The Trailer pictured left was made to fit the lorry cab that my Daughter bought for my grandson on a trip abroad, and he wanted something to put his building blocks and other bits and pieces in, then the cab got broken as they do, so I had to build a new cab pictured right a nice strong one so hopefully will last but then scraps of timber are easily picked up and to see the kids faces is a pleasure.

"CHURCH"

Plastic
kit

I think making toys from scratch is a lot more satisfying than making up preformed plastic kits, although I like to make plastic models of my own design as I eventually would like to make a little model town in about 4mm or 7mm scale, anything larger than that would take up to much room, and not only that plastic models would be able to take the weather better

"Plastic
Car
Kit"

The leanto's on the left and right of the Teashop were designed to go to the rear of the building but then they covered a door on one side and a window on the other which meant that had to bring them both forward which also meant other alterations but that made it more interesting.

"Plastic
house Kit"

A lot of plastic models nowadays have prepainted sections so just need assembling, but not as interesting as designing your own colour scheme and it seems that all of the model house kits have holes in the base so that when finaly positioned they can be linked up and lit

This bungalow was built for a very good friend of mine, back in the sixties, for his two daughters, so rather than the standard dolls house and to make it easier for the two girls to be able to share it.
It consisted of 5 rooms and a patio see picture right,so one could have the three rooms and the other could have two rooms and the patio,
each half had it's own light source, the batteries were stored in the dormer window, to compensate for one of them only having two rooms the patio had sliding doors into the building which gave it more play potential, the doors and windows were metal ones, but of course nowadays they are all plastic, a few are timber. and the last I heard a few years ago it had been passed down to his grandchildren, so you will probably see it on the Antiques Road Show.

"Train

&

Carriage"

This train was built for my son in 1960 when we lived in Brixton, from instructions in a toy making book that my mum bought me in 1947 when I left school, my son used to sit on it and I would pull him round the block, so it had to be a bit solid to take the wear and tear. But I think it got lost in the shuffle when we moved in 1967.

"Aeroplane Shelf Unit"

This shelf Unit was made for my grandson, due to an iminent move it has not been put up on the wall, the picture to right is a close up centre fusalage section

"Overnight Train Shed"

this overnight train shed was made to fit in with a Brio wooden train set
it is made simply from ply and MDF and grooved to match up to the existing track also extra curved section to fit the two different outlets

I have recently taken up another hobby Short Mat Bowls and I play for the Maresfield Badgers and I find this hobby very enjoyable the other members are very friendly and we have a few laughs and have some tea and biscuits during the afternoon, we go to other clubs for matches and then they come to us for a return match, many of the other clubs have different length mats but this all helps to make it more interesting so playing on your home ground does give you the edge, other clubs that we have played against are Crowborough, Uckfield, Heathfield, Fairwarp, Polgate, Nutley

Update
