The following is a reprint of  William's obituary as it appeared in The Augusta Chronicle, Obituaries, August 3, 1998

Mr. William Murphy Jr.

Pipe fitter

Mr. William Thomas ``Bill'' Murphy Jr., 39, died Saturday, Aug. 1, 1998, at his residence.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Crestview Baptist Church with the Rev. Harry Sims officiating. Burial will be in West View Cemetery.

Mr. Murphy, a native of Augusta, had retired from Padgett H. Vac as a pipe fitter. He was a member of Plumbers and Steamfitters Local Union 150 where he was an instructor of basic welding. He was a Baptist.

Survivors include his wife, Janice Hamil Murphy; a son, Adam Murphy, Augusta; a daughter, Jennifer Murphy Nixon, Augusta; his parents, William T. Murphy Sr. and Ruby Murphy, Augusta; a brother, Mitchell David Murphy, Augusta; three sisters, Julie Bagwell, Augusta, Judy Goolsby McTier, Evans, and Laura McCook, Hephzibah; and his grandmother, Myrtle Whitaker, Augusta.

Pallbearers will be Don Snow, Al Powell, Wayne Phillips, Tim Quattlebaum, Steve Thompson, Matt Saxon, Harold Pace and Bubba Clark.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of Plumbers and Steamfitters Local 150.

Memorials may be made to the Adam Murphy Trust Fund c/o Regions Bank, 2839 Central Ave., Augusta, GA 30904.

Friends may call at the residence or at Poteet Funeral Home, Peach Orchard Road.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
