TRAINING TEAMS *National QualifersTeam
NATIONAL PROGRAM Swimmers in this program are aspiring to achieve at the highest possible level with their competitive swimming (National Open or Australian Age Championship standard). The swimmers must achieve the required performance criteria and are expected to show the level of commitment recommended by the Coaching Program Coordinator and Head Age Group Coach. 11 swim- training sessions and Landwork- training sessions will be available to this program.
Landwork Training Will be for selected swimmers depending upon the swimmers developmental needs throughout the season.Sessions off per team National Qualifying Team Wednesday AM and Thursday PMNational Age Team Wednesday AM and Thursday AM and Friday PM (unless there is an ASC Race Session Junior National Team Tuesday PM, Wednesday AM, Thursday AM and Friday PM (unless there is an ASC Race Session) STATE AGE OPEN TEAM This team is for swimmers aged 11 years and older. Swimmers in this team are aiming to achieve a position in the National Program. The swimmers are expected to show the level of commitment recommended by the Coaching Program Coordinator and/ or the Head Age Group Coach. The criterion for entry into this team requires swimmers to be competitive members of the Arena Swim Club. Entry into this team is at the discretion of the Coaching Program Coordinator and/ or the Head Age Group Coach.
DEVELOPMENT TEAM The swimmer is being prepared to race at State Junior and/ or State Age Championship level. The workload and expectations of the swimmer would increase. Some swimmers in this team may now have a preferred event. They will continue to be developed as IM competitors as well as competing in middle distance and distance freestyle events. It is expected that the swimmers would attend 6 training sessions a week if they wish to be considered for movement to the State Age / Open Team. The competitive criterion for entry to this team is the swimmer having a minimum of 3 State qualifying times for their age group.
INTERMEDIATE TEAM Once the swimmer has reached this level they will be introduced to more types of training sets. They would continue to work on all areas from the Junior Team and now the individual medley would be considered as their main event. All swimmers will have their favorite event but the 200 IM is considered to be the most important event for all swimmers. Performance criteria required is at least 1 State qualifying time in the swimmers age group (Preference to 100 / 200 times).
JUNIOR TEAM The first of the competitive swimming teams in the Arena Swim Club. Swimmers who graduate from the Arena LTS Marlin Teams would join this team. The main focus of this team is to improve the technique, starts and turns of the team member whilst improving their endurance.
All training times may be subject to alteration by the coaching staff. Notice of any changes will be given to the affected swimmers. ** Please note – Swimmers must book for one weekday timeslot only per month. TRIATHLON TEAM This team is for ASC members aged 11 years and older. Members in this team are aiming to achieve a position in the State Triathlon Team. The members are expected to show the level of commitment recommended by the Coaching Program Coordinator and the Head Triathlon Coach. The criterion for entry into this team requires swimmers to be competitive members of the Arena Swim Club. Entry into this team is at the discretion of the Coaching Program Coordinator and the Head Triathlon Coach.
SURF iT TEAM This team is for swimmers aged 11 years and older who want to train for surf club or maintain their general fitness. Swimmers can be new to the sport or have progressed through the swimming team system. There is no minimum number of training sessions that should be attended each week although it is recommended that all swimmers in this team attend the 3 swimming sessions a week to maintain their fitness level.
