The New York Knicks are a National Basketball Association team based in New York, New York. It was established in June 1946, as a part of the Basketball Association of America. As a part of their set up, the Knicks made Madison Square Garden their home stadium sited on top of Pennsylvania Station at 33rd Street and 7th Avenue . Factually, Madison Square Garden has been the name of four stadiums in New York City , U.S. The Garden is a home of the professional sports teams viz. the New York Knicks (basketball) and New York Rangers (ice hockey). They play their home matches in this stadium. Not only this, the Garden also hosts the high-spirited indoor activities that draws the attraction of large audiences. Even the Garden entertained the important boxing fights including that of Joe Louis, the Roberto Duran-Ken Buchanan affair, and the most famous Joe Frazier Muhammad Ali fight. The Madison Square Garden was initially also called the Mecca Of Boxing before its enterprisers Bob Arum and Don King shifted the undertaking to Las Vegas.

Formerly, the ground set apart for the construction of the first Madison Square Garden was the Union Depot of the New York and Harlem Railroad. In 1871, P. T. Barnum became the owner of the depot and changed into hippodrome recognized as "Barnum's Monster Classical and Geological Hippodrome," which was after sometime christened as Gilmore's Garden. The first arena got its official name from William Henry Vanderbilt. He gave Gilmore's Garden a new name aka Madison Square Garden. The arena was purposedly built for the sport of track cycling and is still remembered in the events of Garden's history. The layout of second Madison Square Garden was kept by Stanford White. It was inaugurated in 1890. The third official arena was established in 1925. Madison Square Garden IV was set up on 11 th February 1968.
