Andrew F and Martha Carnahan Pyeatt

Andrew Finley Pyeatt was born on March 3, 1801, in Warren County, Kentucky, to James and Catherine Finley Pyeatt. In 1812 Andrew moved with his parents and siblings from Warren County, Kentucky, to Crystal Hill, Pyeatt Township, Pulaski County, Arkansas (about 13 miles from Little Rock).

Andrew married on July 27, 1824, Pulaski County, Arkansas, Mrs. Martha Carnahan Pyeatt who was born in 1792 to Rev. John and Janet Billingsly Carnahan. He died before April 23, 1837.

Martha was first married to Andrew's double-cousin John Pyeatt in 1815. Andrews father, James, was a brother to John's father. Jacob and Andrew's mother, Catherine, was a sister to John's mother, Margaret. After Andrew's death, Martha married third to Jefferson "Jeff" Cabe (some researchers have this as her first marriage).

The children of Andrew and Martha were:

I note that there are Billingslys buried in the Rio Vista Cemetery, Johnson County, Texas.

A letter from Gay Stone gives the following information: "My mother will be 90 in November and still lives independently. Mother has one living Pyeatt cousin just older who lives in Memphis, TX, the daughter of Ben A. Pyeatt. I have one male cousin in Duncan, OK named Pyeatt. It seems that my direct line is dwindling. My grandfather and my mother were born in Johnson Co., Texas. Although I haven't researched it, Finis Ewing Pyeatt, my ggfather moved to near the Nolan River near Rio Vista, Johnson Co., TX from the Fayetteville (Cane Hill) area of Arkansas. Incidentally, my husband and I lived in Fayetteville from 1962-1964 while he attended the University and I worked as a secretary. We drove to Cane Hill once while living there, but I didn't take the time to do much looking. By the way, my mom does have another Pyeatt cousin or two in California, Helen Pyeatt Salyer, who has done quite a bit of research through Salt Lake City, etc. I would be glad to cooperate with you and am always glad to correct, document, or add to what I have. Texas/Ark/Ky/SC/NJ John Soloman Pyeatt/Finis Ewing Pyeatt/John Henry Pyeatt/Andrew Finley Pyeatte/James Pyeatte/Maj. John Pyeatt/Jacob Pyeatt/Jacob Piat. Thanks again. Gay Stone"

On the 1830 census of Pulaski Co, AR, Andrew and family appeared as follows:

Andrew is one of the three males 20-30. Martha is the female 30-40. The female under five is their daughter, Jemima, who was born 1829. I am not sure who the male under five would be or the two males 20-30. The two older males could be brothers of Andrew or employees.

Andrew's step-children from Martha's marriage to John Pyeatt were:

Finis is the male 10-15 years old and Pauline is the female 5-10 years old.

I would guess since we have a date for Andrew's death as 'before April 23, 1837' that his will or estate were probated at that time and his death would have occured just previous to that. The twice widowed Martha decided to marry again and chose as her third husband, Jefferson 'Jeff' Cabe. He was born in Tennessee c1790 and evidently had two daughters from a previous marriage as follows:

Martha and Jeff then had two children:

Martha is said to have died before 1851 in Washington County, Arkansas. Does anyone know where she is buried? After her death, Jeff Cabe married third in 1851 to Margaret Pyeatt (the widow Pierce). Who are her parents and first husband?

Jeff and Margaret had the following child:

They are on the 1860 census in Fayetteville P O, Marrs Hill Township, Washington County, Arkansas:

This family enumerated #482/74 pg 546 Ancestry.com image 11/23. Their neighbors were #482 Willis Polston, #484 William Carnahan, #485 Elizabeth Payatt, #486 Neal Eamiston, #487 Thomas West, and #488 Jackson Long.

Next door was the family of (?Jeff's daughter) as follows:

The information that I had on Jeff's daughter was that she was 'Jane B' and married to Willis Polson. So, either her name was inaccurate on the family sheet or the census or this is not Jeff's daughter.

I find then in Ray's Mill P O, Marrs Hill Township, Washington County, Arkansas on the 1870 census as follows:

This family was enumerated #13/13 pg 2 (ancestry.com image 2/35. At #14 was the family of F E and P J Pyatt along with J C and J A Pyatt.

Jeff is said to have died in the 1880s in Seneca, Missouri where he lived with one of his daughters, Elizabeth Cabe Williams. He is buried in the Swars Prairie Cemetery near Seneca.
