In The Close Combat II game engine the soldiers ranks are identified with numbers from 0 through 9. The highest four (#9 - 6) are generally officer grade ranks. The middle ranks are usually Non Commissioned Officers (NCO). And the lower numbers are the enlisted men's ranks. Note that the lowest rank #0 (sometimes also rank #1) in many services is only a blank black field. soldiers can be promoted when showing good performance (Kills, especially tank kills by infantry, acts of bravery, medals, etc) over a series of battles. Promotion generally occurs rather seldom though, Also a soldier cannot be promoted indefinitely. A gap between
