Chapter Nine
Kory goes to his office to get his cigarettes and a lighter.
“What kind of cigarettes do you smoke?”
“To be honest, I quit, but it doesn’t really matter. I prefer Marlboro Lights though.”
“That’s weird! I smoke that too!”
“Oh wow, that is weird. But don’t tell Mike that I had one, he’ll freak out because I told him I don’t smoke and never have.”
“Okay, it’s just between us.”
“Good!”
Kory and Kaci walk downstairs and outside and both light their cigarettes.
“So, where’s your Beamer?”
“Next to Mike’s Montero Sport.”
“Okay, so show it to me!”
Kaci starts walking toward her BMW M3 when Kory grabs her hand.
"What’s up with you and Michael?”
“Nothing, why?”
“Well, both Staci and Kim told me you were going to get him to break up with you so you can date this Miguel guy.”
“That’s what I wanted, but now that I think about it, Miguel is a really good friend and I don’t want to jeopardize that friendship.”
“So, would this jeopardize our friendship?” Kory says and then kisses Kaci.
Kaci pulls away from Kory and gives him the weirdest look.
“Why’d you do that?” she asks him.
“You’re hot. I’ve had the urge to kiss you since I first saw you. I just never got the chance to talk to you and hang out with you. That’s the REAL reason that I want you and Michael to go out with Staci and me Saturday night.”
“Whatever Kory.”
“I can still come with you guys to Radius though, right?”
“Sure.”
“And Staci won’t know that I kissed you out here, right?”
“I can’t promise you that. If it comes out, then it comes out. We’ll both have to deal with it, if and when it comes out, with Staci and Mike.”
Kaci finishes her cigarette and starts to walk back inside.
“Hey, aren’t you going to show me your BMW?”
“As long as you don’t pull the same thing you just did.”
“I won’t I promise. Unless, that is, you want me to.”
“It was nice, but it’s okay, you can keep your kisses for your girlfriend.”
“Right, my girlfriend.”
Kaci walks towards her BMW with Kory behind her, trying to quickly finish his cigarette since he was more interested in talking and messing around with Kaci.
“This is my baby,” Kaci says when she gets to her BMW.
“NICE. I can see you pimping this!” Kory says.
“Finally, someone who agrees with me!”
“What do you mean?”
“No one else says that I can pimp the BMW. Everyone’s like ‘why don’t you just stick to your truck?’ when I KNOW I can pimp my BMW!”
“Oh. Yeah, I haven’t seen your truck, but I’ve heard about it, but I like your Beamer. Stick with the Beamer!”
“Sure thing. You done yet?”
“Yeah, let’s go.”
Kory and Kaci walk back inside. When they go upstairs, Kory grabs Kaci’s hand again.
“What now?” asks Kaci.
“Come here, I want to show you something.”
Kory takes Kaci back to his office, which has no windows, except for the one overlooking the back parking lot.
“What is it that you want to show me?”
“Sit down in my chair,” Kory says as he walks to his door and shuts it and locks it.
“Oh no, what did Michael tell you?”
“Nothing, I just want to have a conversation with you without interruptions.
Kory intercoms Michael in the studio to let him know that him and Kaci are in his office.
“That’s cool, as long as she’s not causing trouble,” Mike says.
“Oh, she won’t.”
“Hey baby, is it okay if Kory comes with us to Radius tonight?”
“We’ll talk about this later. I have to get back to the show.”
Kory hangs up with Michael and moves some stuff off his desk and sits on it, facing Kaci.
“What’s up with you Kory?”
“Nothing, why would you say that?”
“You’re acting weird. I mean, I don’t know you, but you’re acting weird.”
Kaci’s cell phone rings while she’s with Kory.
“Hello?”
“Kaci?”
“Yeah, who’s this?”
“It’s Krystal.”
“Oh hey girl, what’s up?”
“I heard you on the radio. Are you definitely going to Radius?”
“Yeah, of course, why?”
“Who all is going with you?”
“It’s me, Staci, Kim, Jose, Kory and Chris.”
“That’s it?”
“Well, that’s who all is going that I know of. I mean, I invited Jackie and Lucas, but who knows if they’ll come or not.”
“Oh, okay. Who are Jose and Kory?”
“Jose is an old friend from where I used to work from when I first moved down here from Chicago. And Kory is this guy that’s sitting next to me.”
“Let me talk to him.”
“Okay.”
Kaci hands Kory her phone.
“It’s my friend Krystal. She wants to talk to you.”
“Okay.”
Kory takes Kaci’s phone.
“I’ll be in the studio, just bring it with you when you come back to the studio.”
“Okay,” Kory says then starts talking to Krystal.“This is Kory.”
“Hey! How are you?”
“Good and yourself?”
“Pretty good. Who exactly are you? I’ve never heard of you!”
“Right now I’m only an intern. But since you’re a friend of Kaci’s you’ll get to know me. I’m dating her friend Staci.”
“Really? I thought that Staci was single!”
“Oh well, we just started dating tonight.”
“Oh, I see! Well, you’re going to be at Radius tonight, aren’t you?”
“I want to go, and Kaci said I am going, but I don’t know if her boyfriend will let me!”
“What does Michael have to do with you?”
“I’m working with him tonight. If he needs me, I can’t go.”
“Oh, okay. Well, tell Kaci that I will see her at Radius tonight. And hopefully I will see you there too!”
“Okay, I will. Bye.”
Kory hangs up with Krystal and then goes back to the studio. He hands Kaci her phone and then whispers something in her ear and she follows Kory outside the studio.
“Where you going?”
“Just follow me, you’ll know where we’re going.”
“Okay,” Kaci says all confused.
Kory takes Kaci back to where the snack machine is to talk to her.
“Are you sure that you still want me to come with you guys to Radius tonight?”
“Absolutely. I was going to talk to Mike right when you came in.”
“Oh, well, in that case, let’s get back so you can talk to your boyfriend!”
Kaci and Kory go back to the studio. The two walk in holding hands, which brings suspicion to both Staci and Michael.
