Broken Hearts

“Hey, is everything ok?" they asked when I walked into the room.

"Yeah" but I lied. I was not fine at all.

Later, Brian was better and we got to go and see him. The Boys went in and saw him first and talked. The doctor came in and said that his results were good and he could go home, but he had to take it easy. Then, the boys told him of how I had saved him and he was overjoyed. They brought me in, even though I really didn't want to right then.

"Brian!" giving him a gentle hug.

"Hey. So, you're the one they say saved my life."

"What?" I turned to the guys.

"What did you guys tell him?"

"Nothing..." they said in smiling, guilty, childish voices.

"Well...not really, but..."

"You're the best. Come here" Brian said giving me a great big hug.

"Ummm... thanks.. but I am just happy that your back and healthy." although I did not deserve the compliment.

"Me too."

"We missed you a lot."

"Awww...I love you guys" turning all red, with a smile on his face.

We all gathered for a group hug. I caught Nick's eyes and smiled, but he noticed that my eyes were all red and puffy and was concerned but did not say anything and smiled back.

"Just don't scare us like that again." messing with his hair.

From there, we went to the station house and hung out and watched a movie and ate popcorn. Well... the popcorn ended up all over the floor. We had a popcorn fight and some of them tried to get it into the other one's mouth. I was teasing and playing around with Nick and he got me back by tickling me to death. I had to say uncle really loud to get him to stop. The rest of them could see that we liked each other. We flirted all night. Finally, we decided that we should go to bed. I went up behind Nick and flipped his hat and got it.

"Hey!" he yelled.

I screamed and ran from him and he came after me, both of us laughing. I ran around the room and through the hallways and stopped and stood straight and silent against the kitchen wall, waiting for him to come the other way. He didn't come for a few minutes and so I got off the wall and poked my head around and didn't see him. Well, he came up behind me and grabs me around the waist, scaring me half to death.

"Gotcha!"

With a little scream, I turned around and smiled at him.

"That was mean"

"I know, that why I did it" with a smile.

I finally surrendered his hat and we went into my room and talked.

Laughing as we came into the room, “that was fun.. I have to admit, you’re good…”

“I know… that’s why I’m the king.” With a grin.

“Hey… I, uh, wanted to tell you before I forgot… I want you to know that despite what happened at the hospital, I am totally committed to this group. I hope I’ve made that impression in my work here. You guys are the best people I’ve worked with. I know we’ve had our times but that’s what makes it so great. We all come together and lean on each other. I am here for you guys not only as _______ but also a friend. You guys mean a lot to me.”

“Brie, forget about what happened at the hospital. There were a lot of words said out of anger and we were all upset. You don’t have to tell me what you are to this group. I already know. All of us appreciate all the hard work you do for us. You’ve already proven your loyalty to us, a long time ago and you still continue to. Frankly, we couldn’t do without you.” He said with a smile. “Now, enough with all the seriousness… I think we’ve been through enough in the last couple days don’t you?”

“Oh yeah, definitely” with a hint of laugher In the midst of a much more relaxed conversation, he leaned over and kissed me. As we pulled away...

"Nick, you dumbass!" AJ yelled down the hall.

We both looked at each other and laughed.

"Damn, what did I do now?"

I just giggled and shrugged and he got serious.

“About…… I’m sorry. I just couldn’t help myself”

"There’s no reason to be sorry...I liked it."

"Yeah? Me too..."

I smiled back, feeling all warm inside.

"Well, I better get back over to my room and see what ‘s up."

“Alright, goodnight. See you in the morning.”

"Ok, night. Sweet dreams"

"Thanks... You too"

Nick left thinking 'Oh, I will be having sweet dreams alright' with a smirk on his face.
