Broken Hearts

" ….How could this happen? He was fine. It's Brie's fault. She didn't do a good enough job. She didn't help him and look where he is now. She said that he would be ok; she lied. This is all her fault."

I came into the conversation and had heard most of it. Kevin saw me a little before Nick was done talking. I left as Nick finished. Kevin was staring at where I had stood. Nick had noticed this and had this look on his face. Nick turned and saw nothing.

" What are you looking at? I was talking to you and you haven't heard anything I've said for the past minute or two. There is nothing there, for god sakes.”

“Well, there was. While you were blowing off your steam, Brie walked in and heard it, and took off. You know what? You are so inconsiderate of others... This was not her fault at all! She probably saved his life by doing CPR! If I were you, I would not be blaming her, I would be thanking her. And by the way you are going, I would be begging for forgiveness.”

Meanwhile, Nick had this look of disgust on his face and got even madder at what Kevin had said. He was staring to make fists with his hands.

“Then who is to blame uh? The doctors? Brian might die and you’re telling me that it’s nobody’s fault? Bullshit! ”

“Nick, listen to me.”

“No, I’m done”

“Damnit Nick, listen to me! It was an accident. It was no one’s fault that it happened. The doctors are doing the best they can. Things are not always so simple. There is not always a reason for why things happen. Let’s just hope and pray that he makes it through. That is what you should be doing, instead of blaming everyone else”

He paces the hallway and realizes that Kevin is right.

“I guess,, I guess you’re right. I just want Brian to be okay.”

“I know…we all do… But you need to start acting like it. Blaming everyone is not making things any better. You need to get your act together and go and apologize to Brie; that is if she’s still here.”

“I just hope that she’ll forgive me” and he walks off to find me.

On the way out, I ran into AJ, almost knocking him over. He saw me in tears and was concerned immediately.

" What is wrong Brie?"

"Nick said that this was all my fault and that I didn’t do a good enough job. If I would have, this would have never happened...."

I turned and wiped my eyes

"Is that true?"

" Now, you know that’s not true" turning my head.

" Maybe it is."

He tried to calm me down. I asked him why Nick said all those terrible things. He talked to me for a little while and finally calmed me down.
