| Home | Major recent accomplishments have included completion of the mammoth task of integrating the Kingdom's oil industry according to a Royal Decree anacted on July 1, 1993, which merged all of the Kingdom's oil refineries and petroleum product distribution facilities into Saudi Aramco. It also made the company responsible for the Government's 50 percent share in the three joint-venture refineries in the Kingdom. Principal assets transferred to the company under the decree included three domestic refineries: a 190,000-bpd facility at Yanbu, a 140,000-bpd facility at Riyadh and a 90,000-bpd plant at Jiddah. The three joint-venture refineries for which the company assumed the Government's half-ownership share were: the Saudi Aramco Mobil Refinery Company at Yanbu (320,000 bpd), the Saudi Aramco shell Refinery Company at Jubail (300,000 bpd) and a 325,000-bpd facility at Rabigh on the Red Sea, of which Saudi Aramco acquired full ownership in 1995. In another important accomplishment, Saudi Aramco returned maximum sustained crude oil production capacity to 10 million bpd in 1994, completing a program begun in 1989 to meet customers' requirements for a mix of crude grades through the end of the century. This was accomplished by completing two major projects which raised maximum sustained production capacity by a total of 500,000 bpd. A portion of the increase included production of 200,000 bpd of premium Arab Super Light crude oil from new fields in central Saudi Arabia. This marked the first production of super light sweet oil, the first oil production outside the Eastern Province and the first production from oil fields discovered, developed and operated by the company since it became a Saudi corporation.
