The Moorhens

The moorhens have been nesting & raising their chicks on our pond for several years now to our delight & that of our visitors. They usually raise two broods of 4 or more chicks each year, & their appetite for the koi food over rides their normally shy nature! By the time they are a few weeks old, they see Robert coming when he goes down to feed the koi in the early evening, & clamber out of the pond onto the bridge to grab the food before it hits the water! (circa 2000)
