Chapter 2
She flew across the grass at a speed not even light could match.
Desperation hanging clear in the air as the blood dripped around her. A blinding
light flashed and she stopped, an image as clear as day placed in front of her.
His blue haired shined under the lights, his features showing the pure happiness
he felt, his actions showing his adrenaline, the fans showing their love. He
moved around the ring like a creature before his time, his natural ability like
that of a predator, years before man was created. A shrill noise sounded and she
jumped back, relaxing when the image didn't even waver. She watched him, a
content smile lighting up her face, the beauty of the moment likely to forever
stay etched on her mind. The voice came from no where, as the power left her,
the image still clear. "You can't cheat death. One life saved, is another
having to be taken. Of the two you hold most dear, one must go. One already has
a second chance in his reality, so the other must be taken to ours." As the
voice trailed off, she felt pain elope her body. And as he faded to nothing
before her... she screamed.
Kaci opened her eyes with a gasp, not exactly sure what had just happened to
her, where she had just been or what was controlling it. When she had been
warned of Adam's coming death, she had always had the power guiding her. She had
always seen things that were warning her. She had never seen happiness, and had
never been spoken to in the reality that was simply unknown. Though she had been
clearly warned of Jeff's coming fate before, what she had just experienced
wasn't a warning, she was simply just being told of the future. She turned her
eyes to the sleeping form next to her, pain filling her from head to toe upon
seeing him. She'd had three images shown to her in the course of two hours. She
knew, just by looking at him that his time was near. Not knowing if this time
she could change fate and save his life.
She sat in their bed and waiting for the sun to rise. Not having closed her eyes
since the last image had left her mind, for fear she would see what she was
dreading. Determination filled her, and she vowed she wasn't going to let him
die. She wasn't going to know something was about to happen and not do a damned
thing about it. The power of the pure warned her of things to come, warned her
so that she could stop it. And she'd been warned of Jeff's fate. It was the pain
of darkness that had shown her the future, wanting her to believe there was
nothing she could do to stop them.
"Kaci?" She was roused from her thoughts as Jeff looked up at
her, sleep coating his voice as he spoke. "Have you been awake all
night?" She nodded her head, leaning into him as he sat up and pulled her
close.
"I woke up after I got the first image. I'd only been asleep a few minutes.
Then, I got the second when I kissed you. I closed my eyes, and I got a third.
Three in one night isn't good, Jeff," immense pain sounded in her voice.
"Two when I'm awake is worse." She turned from him and looked out the
window. Not wanting him to see the tears falling down her face as her
determination slipped away from her. He gently kissed her head.
"Kaci, you stopped it last time, I'm sure you could stop it again." He
tried to reassure her. His own head spinning, his own heart filled with fear,
his own soul filled with terror. She bit her lip, sensing his fear and holding
herself back from telling him exactly what the third image had been. Taking a
deep breath, she smiled happily, jumping out of bed with a bounce.
"Yeah. Your right! No need to let it get us down, we can stop it. Now
C'mon," she grabbed his hand, pulling him from the bed. "We have to
get ready and packed for your show tonight." He chuckled lightly as she
dragged him into the shower, his chuckle becoming husky as they got under the
water together. She sighed with relief as the fear left his body. Hoping she
could keep him happy until his last second on earth.
