Chapter 7
“Jeff, come on please, go back to Eddie boat and get some sleep. I will
call you if she wakes up.”
“NO! I want to be here.”
“Jeff you are exhausted, any one can see that. Just go get a couple of
hours sleep.”
“No.” Was Jeff’s only answer as he kissed Chloe’s hand and rested
his head on the edge of the bed. “My baby needs me.”
“You’re not doing her any good being like this Jeff.”
“I know that. But I can’t leave her.”
“I understand that you want to be here, but think of your own health for a
minute. You don’t want to end up ill as well. Then you wouldn’t be any
use to Chloe.”
Matt placed a hand on his brother’s shoulder as Jeff lifted his head.
“You’re right. But I don’t’ wanna go back to the boat, I wanna stay
here.”
“I’ll see if we can get you a room near here. Ok? You promise me that
you will sleep.”
“I promise. But you make sure you wake me up if she wakes up.”
“Of course I will.”
“This isn’t good Eddie.”
“I know that. But we can’t say anything to Jeff.”
“He’s blocking the reality of this, I mean she could have brain damage
or anything.”
“I pray to god she hasn’t.”
“I can’t bare to think about it.”
“How are you coping?”
“Ok. But I have only been here a couple of hours.”
“I know but you must have been worrying all the way over here.”
“I was. I had all these what if’s going through my head. It was driving
me mad.”
“At least you don’t’ have to worry about Jamie.”
“Yeah, thanks Eddie. You have been such a great friend to her and us.”
“It’s no problem. She’s a special girl.”
“I know.”
After Jeff had slept for a few hours he slowly woke up before he realised
where he was, he got straight of the bed he was on and ran back to Chloe’s
room.
He pushed the door open to see Chloe’s bed surrounded by doctors and
nurses. He felt Matt pull him against him.
“Matt, what’s going on?” Jeff asked scared and confused, he let a tear
fall from his eye.
“She took a turn for the worst Jeff.”
“NO!!” Jeff shouted out as he tried to go to her bedside but Matt and
Eddie held him back.
“She needs their help Jeff. Let them do their job.”
“My baby!” Jeff cried into his brother’s shoulder.
“I know bro. She’s going to make it. She’s a fighter.”
“I’m scared.” Jeff sobbed as he heard the heart beat monitor beep once
again, signalling Chloe’s return to life.
Only Jeff sat in Chloe’s hospital room now. He sat on the edge of the bed
again with her hand in his. He just watched her face, as silent tears
cascaded down his cheeks.
“You will make it through this baby. I know you will. Be strong. Think
about all what we can do together. I will give up anything for you, even the
WWF. I never want to be apart from you again angel. I want to be by your
side night and day, and if that means I have to quit my job I will. I love
you angel. Please, please wake up. I love you.”
Jeff jumped slightly as he felt his hand being gripped. He looked down at it
and saw Chloe’s fingers curling around his. A smile lit up his face. As he
moved his eyes to her face her eyes slowly began to flutter open. As they
adjusted to the light her eyes grew wider. Her eyes never met Jeff’s until
her scan of her surroundings was complete.
“Baby.” Jeff spoke softly.
Chloe’s eyes moved to the figure that sat on her bed.
“You came back to me angel.” Jeff whispered as he smiled.
Chloe’s eyes narrowed as she looked at Jeff. She managed to pull her hand
from Jeff’s and she just let it fall onto the bed. She rolled her head to
one side and looked away from him.
Jeff felt as if a knife had just been pushed into his chest as he watched
her push him away.
