Chapter 6

Three day had passed and no change came to Chloe’s condition. Jeff had become depressed, and despite the attempts of everyone around him, no one could get Jeff away from Chloe’s bedside.
Matt had flown out that day and was now being picked up by Eddie. For the first time since the race day that Sunday Sonia brought Jamie into the hospital after he had spent all night crying for his mummy.
“Jeff, is it ok if we come in?”
“Sure.” A tired Jeff mumbled from his chair by the bed.
“Hey Clo.” Sonia spoke softly. “I brought someone to see you.” She said s she placed Jamie on the bed by Chloe’s side. He sat down in front of Jeff and began to play with his mummies fingers. Jeff had to smile as he put one into his mouth and chewed on it. Jamie seemed to realise his mum wasn’t moving and e dropped her fingers and crawled up the bed a bit.
“Mumma.” He said. “MUMMA!” He cried when she didn’t move. Jamie then hit Chloe’s shoulder, only to be stopped when Jeff held his hand. Jamie had watery eyes.
“Why don’t you lay with mummy?” Jeff asked the three year old. Jamie did just that. He laid down at Chloe’s side and rested his head on her shoulder and placed one arm above her head playing with her hair and he sucked his other thumb.
Jeff looked to Sonia who was watching Jamie. She had never seen a three year old like that before. He seemed to know something was wrong, maybe after not seeing her and then seeing her like this made some kind of sense to him, but know one knew. Jeff took Chloe’s hand into his again. His fingers began to play with the wedding ring that had joined them in marriage. “Come on angel, wake up. Please. I need you. Don’t leave me. We promised each other a forever together, please don’t cut it short. I love you.” He said for what seemed the millionth time, but he didn’t care, he hoped she could her him and he hoped that soon. She would open her eyes, or squeeze his hand, giving him a sign, giving him some hope.

“Eddie how is she?” Matt asked as they drove from the airport to the hospital.
“No body can tell us anything until she wakes up.”
“Do you think it’s bad?”
“I hope not. She is an amazing and very strong woman I wouldn’t be surprised if she pulled through whatever may happen to her.”
“I hope so Eddie. How’s Jeff?”
“Exhausted. Depressed. Scared. Alone.”
“Doesn’t sound like Jeff.”
“He isn’t the same Jeff, not at the minute. He won’t drink because he doesn’t’ want to leave her side to go to loo. He won’t eat. He hardly sleeps. He never moves from the chair at her bedside. He’s a wreck Matt. He needs you.”
“I just hope I can help him.”
“You can. You were in love with her too right?”
“Yeh, I was.”
“Well, imagine what you wouldn’t have felt then, would you have wanted to leave her?”
“No. How is this gunna help me?”
“I don’t know. All I’m saying is. She is everything to him. He wants to be there twenty-four seven just in case she wakes up. If he loses her, a part of him will be killed too.”
“I know. She’s not going to die. She to strong.”
“And stubborn!”
“Yeh. She wouldn’t go without winning the championship and whipping Michael Schumacher’s ass!”
“Too right! You got to love that about her. She knows what she wants.”
“Yeh she does.”
“I know all the guys from formula one have sent flowers and stuff to her. All seven of her brothers are here, me and Sonia have been looking after Jamie. And my parents are coming over as well. The adore Chloe and Jamie so they said they will look after him so you and Jeff can spend the time at the hospital.”
“Thanks Eddie. I really do appreciate this.”
”It’s no problem. I just pray to god she will pull through this.”
