Chapter 5

Jeff watched the ambulance pull up and got out of the car and ran after the stretcher as quick as he could. When he caught up to it her took Chloe’s hand in his and held it tightly. He kissed it softly. He felt the tears well up in his eyes and fall don his cheeks as he watched his wife taken into the emergency room, where he wasn’t allowed to go. The doctors pushed him back and Ben had to with strain him form running in after her. Jeff fell against the wall and dropped to the floor, his head buried against his knees. Ben dropped to his side and the brothers-in-law embraced, as the hoped and prayed Chloe would be ok.

As the race had been stopped all the drivers had gone back to their garages and were all sitting in silence, all waiting for news on the young red headed driver. Eddie was the most worried. He had seen replays of the accident and it seemed to him that Chloe had, for no apparent reason, lost control of the car. He watched the tape one more time, this time with his team of mechanics around him, also a couple of the other drivers had heard Eddie had a tape and where now watching it with him.

Sonia had taken Jamie into Chloe’s trailer so he didn’t hear anything that was going on about his mummy.

Eddie paused the tape at the point Chloe seemed to lose control and hit the back of Ralf’s car. Chloe’s head had dropped forward, almost as if her neck was broken, or she had fallen unconscious. Eddie let the tape play on in slowly motion. He watched as the two cars collided. Chloe’s went flying up into the air and landed back down up side down before rolling the right way up and hitting the tire wall with force. Eddie couldn’t see how she would have survived. He hoped she was ok. Hell, he wasn’t waiting around here to find out. He stood up and grabbed a jacket and a set of car keys and ran from the garage.

“Can we see her?” Jeff more begged the doctor than asked him.

“Only family can see her sir.”

“I’M HER HUSBAND!” He shouted. “And this is her brother!!” He shouted again pointing to Ben.

“Only one at a time. She is till not conscious and we can’t tell you how much damage there is, or if there is any until she wakes up. Just talk to her. She can hear everything you say.”

“You go.” Ben said to Jeff. Jeff didn’t need telling twice. He pushed the door open and froze as he saw Chloe laying motionless on the bed with tubes all over her, monitors connected to her. The tears came again to his eyes as he watched her. He walked slowly over to her. He took her left hand in both of his and held in tightly before bringing it up to his lips and kissing it.

“Don’t leave me baby. Please. I need you. You can make it through this baby. Please be strong.” Jeff again kissed her hand before pulling a chair up to her bedside and he replaced his hands around hers. He rested his elbows on the bed and just watched her face, waiting for her eyes to open.
