Chapter 4

Eddie pulled the trailer door open and stepped inside, immediately he recognised Chloe’s crying. He went to where she sat curled up in a ball. He pulled her arms away from her knees and pulled her up against him. He held onto her as she cried and softly rock her.
“Its ok Clo, come on baby. Calm down.” He whispered into her ear.
“I want Jeff.”
“I know you so sweetie but he’s not here.” Eddie whispered again as he continued to rock her. Chloe was the only person that Eddie really cared for in the racing business. He looked out for her and gave her advice when she needed it and helped her train and learn the new tracks. He knew all she had been through with Matt, Jeff and Jamie and ever since she had tried to jump of the hotel that night he kept a close eye on her and made sure nobody hurt her.
Chloe let herself be rocked by Eddie and soon she had stopped crying and sat back and wiped her eyes.
“Thanks.” She mumbled as she stood up. Eddie grabbed her as she wobbled on her legs as they turned to jelly beneath her.
“You’re not racing.”
“I am Eddie, I’ll be fine.”
“No. Look at you. You can’t stand up; you can’t handle your mechanics. Please Clo, don’t go out there and race, you not fit to.”
“I’m perfectly fit!!”
“Maybe physically but not mentally.”
“Eddie, I’ll be fine, I promise. I just needed to cry it out and now I am fine and I’m going to do my job.” She said giving him her best smile, which she knew he could see straight through.
“Fine. But if you feel sick, faint, dizzy, or anything else you pull of the track, ok?”
“Whatever.” Chloe said walking a step from him but Eddie grabbed her arm.
“Promise me!” He demanded.
Chloe looked down at the floor and then back to Eddie. “I promise.”

Jeff stepped of the plane and headed into baggage claim. Once her had collected his bags he headed out front to where Eddie’s sister Sonia was waiting. Ben had spoken to her and asked her to pick him up and she agreed. Jeff took Jamie into his arms and held him for a minute before putting him in the car and getting in himself. Sonia had the radio tuned into the station that was announcing the race.
“Is she going to do it?”
“I hope so, she has four more laps!” The second commentator announced.
“OH MY GOD!!!! It’s HARDY!! She’s of! What a massive crash!!”
“This doesn’t look good.”
At that point Sonia’s and Jeff gazes locked, Jeff turned it up as Sonia drove faster back to the track.
“She isn’t moving. She hasn’t removed the steering wheel and from what we have seen she hasn’t moved since the car collided with her team mate Ralf Schumacher.”
“Schumacher is out of his car and is no running to the other crushed Williams. He is signalling for the marshals to hurry up. This isn’t good.”

“COME ON!!” Ben shouted at the monitor he was watching, he was looking at his sister sitting motionless in the car. The marshals were now removing the tires from the tire wall that had piled on top of the car. She had been there for six minutes now and the race had been stopped and the ambulance was on track.
“BEN!” Was yelled from the back of the garage. He turned around to see Jeff hurrying through the garage.
“It’s Chloe, Jeff.”
“I know, I heard on the radio! Why aren’t the getting her out??!!”
“I don’t’ know. I wish they would hurry.”
Jeff stared at the monitor as Ralf had removed Chloe’s steering wheel and was now helping the paramedics lift her from the car. They laid her onto the stretcher that was on the ground. She still showed no signs of life, as she was strapped on. The paramedics checked her vital signs. She was alive, but she was unconscious and struggling to breathe.
