chapter 3

Slowly Leah got out of bed the next morning. She looked out of the curtains and the ground was covered with snow…it was now only four days before Christmas and Lindsay was leaving today. Leah sighed and walked out of the bedroom, her feet padding down the hallway and down the stairs. She poured herself some orange juice and decided to unpack a couple of boxes. She opened the first one, which was full of books and thins that people have but never use. She sighed and carried a handful over to the bookcase and placed them on.

Soon she had spent three hours unpacking boxes. All the boxes that now stood in the living room where empty and Leah carried the out to the garage and chucked them in.

As she turned around she watched Lindsay pull her car into the driveway and get out.

“Morning.” Leah said as she crossed her arms. “

“No need to be so loud.” Lindsay muttered as she went up into the house. Leah followed her.

“Got a hangover?”

“Yes.”

“Serves you right.” Leah said looking smug.

“No need to rub it in.”

“Yes there is. You left me high and dry last night.”

“Oh yeh. Sorry.” Lindsay said as she slumped down on the sofa. “How did you get home?”

“Amy gave me a lift.”

“Amy?” Lindsay questioned as she lifted her head.

“Someone I met at the party last night.”

“Oh. I better pack. And don’t you wanna no what happened to me last night?”

“I can guess. And you had better go pack.”

“Yeh…” Lindsay mumbled ass he got up and staggered up the stairs.

“Well I guess this is goodbye for now. I’ll ring you as soon as I get there.” Lindsay said as she hugged Leah.

“You do that and drive safely. I know what you’re like.” Leah replied as Lindsay got into her car.

Lindsay then started the car and put it into gear. “I’ve got to pick Chuck up.”

“What? Why?” Leah said slightly shocked.

“We talked and he has a few days of from work and he’s going to come help me move in.”

“I bet he will.”

“I’ll speak to you later.” Lindsay said. Leah smiled as she watches Lindsay and the loaded car leave the driveway.

Leah went back into the house and shut the door. Four days before Christmas and she had no one to buy presents for and no Christmas decorations. She sighed and grabbed her wallet and car keys and went out to find some. She got into her Ferrari spider and roared the engine into life and pulled out of the driveway.

She played loud Christmas music as she drove along and parked by the local store. It wasn’t very big but it should have decorations. She went in and headed for a display, which had nothing but decorations on it.

She picked out a handful of ceiling decorations and some tinsel. The shopkeeper must have seen her with her hands full and he brought her a basket over. “Thanks.” She said as she placed the items in it.

“You just moved here didn’t you?” he asked as he watched her try and reach some lights that where on the top shelf. He stepped in a lifted them down for her.

“Thanks. And yes I did.”

“Is that an English accent?”

“Yeh it is.”

“Let me guess. You just got here and realised it’s so near Christmas you had better put something up to make a new home feel more homely.”

“That’s exactly it. The house is only in the horrible colours and I wanna put up as many decorations as I can to make it look and feel like my home, if that makes any sense.”

“It does. By the I’m Gil Hardy.” He said as he offered her his hand. She shook it.

“I’m Leah.”

“It’s very nice to meet you.”

“You too Gil.” She said with a smile as she picked her now full basket of decorations up and took them to the counter.

He rang them all up on the till. “That’s $42 But as your new and it’s Christmas time you an have them for half price.”

“Are you sure? You don’t’ have to.”

“I’m sure.”

“Thank you.”

“Your welcome. Have you made any friends over here yet then?”

“A couple. I met a few people at a party last night. And I met Shannon a few days before.”

“Shannon Moore?”

“Yeh I think that’s his name.”

“Then you must have met Matt, Jeff, Shane and Amy.”

“Yeh I did. They where all really nice to me. Jeff dragged me onto the dance floor and we danced all night!” Leah said laughing.

“That sounds like Jeff alright.”

“You know him well then? And isn’t Matt his brother or something?”

“They are brothers yes and I know them very well because I’m their dad.” He said with a smile.

“Oh right.” Leah said laughing. She turned slightly red.

“You didn’t know hun. Don’t kick yourself.”

“I know. You must be proud of them. I mean with the wrestling and all.”

“I am very proud of them. Their mother would be to.”

“Would be?”

“She died of cancer a long time ago.”

“I’m so sorry. I had no idea.”

“It’s ok sweety.”

“Well I guess I had better go and find a tree someplace. Any suggestions?”

“I have Christmas trees. I have nearly finished here so if you hang on ten minutes you can come and get one.”

“That would be great. Thank you.”

“Your welcome. I love Christmas and I love helping others enjoy it.”

“I’m not that looking forward to it. It’s my first Christmas with no family and friends.”

“I’m sure you’ll be fine.”

“I hope so. I hate being alone.”
