Chapter 38
Leah watched Jeff as he
filled the last of his child hood belongings into a box and loaded it into the
van Gil had borrowed from a neighbour. They were only driving the mil across
town but they decided that this would be easier. Leah and Jeff got into Gil's
car and drove to the house whilst Colleen and Matt rode with Gil in the van.
They pulled up to the
house and got out. Leah and Colleen smiled at each other as Jeff and Matt led
them up to the house. Leah and Colleen linked arms and Gil followed behind.
Jeff undid the door and opened it but he took Leah's hand and pulled her from
Colleen. He picked her up in his arms and Leah laughed as he walked into the
house with her. He kissed her before he finally put her down, noticing Matt
had done the same with Colleen. Gil smiled at his boys as the looked around
the living room. The carpet was a pale purple and the walls were painted
white. The light beamed through the windows and made shadows of objects across
the room. Leah took hold of Jeff's hand and turned to face him. "It's
perfect." She smiled, her happiness reflected in her eyes.
"Leah told
Jeff." Colleen said as she helped Matt place items around their room.
"She did? And?"
"He is over the
moon."
"I knew he would
be." Matt said as he watched Colleen run her hand over her stomach.
"You ok?" He asked with concerned eyes.
"Yeh I'm fine. Just a
bit of an upset stomach." She lied.
"Why don't you sit
down for a while then?"
"I'll be fine
Matt." She said kissing him.
"If you're
sure."
"I am." She said
smiling.
Leah, Colleen, Matt and
Jeff all sat in their new house and looked around. It was now early evening
and they were all tired after caring boxes, except Leah as Jeff wouldn't let
her. They had ordered pizza and it was on it's way. Gil had left as he was
going to play cards at a friends house.
"So which room are
you going to make the nursery?" Matt asked Leah and Jeff. He watched
Jeff's face light up at the question.
"I thought the one
next to our room. It's quiet big but it's close to us."
"Good idea."
Colleen said.
Matt got up to get the
pizza from the delivery guy who had just rung the bell. The three of them
turned as they heard Matt laugh.
"Carl!" Matt
said laughing as the others joined him at the door. Colleen, Jeff and Leah
laughed at him as he wore his little uniform. "well well well." Matt
said again laughing.
"Shut it Hardy."
He snarled back. "Remember what I did to your little brother and what
Dane did to the tramp? Well next time it will be a hell of a lot worse!"
"No it won't."
Jeff said calmly as he held onto Leah's hand. "I'm ending this. Your
pathetic. Now just leave us alone. You don't scare me any more Carl. And I
swear to god if you lay on finger on Leah you will never have any fingers to
do it again. Got it!!!??" Jeff said as he slammed the door in carls face.
