Chapter 20
By half way though titanic Leah
was a sleep in Jeff’s arms. Colleen decided that she and Matt had better go so
Jeff could take Leah to bed. They got up and Matt saw that Jeff couldn’t get
up without waking Leah so he went to his brother and lifted Leah into his arms.
Jeff got to his feet and let Matt to their bedroom. Matt followed and lay Leah
in the bed as Jeff had already pulled the covers back. Jeff pulled the covers
over her and followed Matt from the room.
Colleen was tiding some of the empty
food packets that were on the floor. She looked up and smiled at the brothers.
“Is she always like that?” she
asked Jeff.
“Like what?”
“Falling asleep?”
“Yeh. She always is tired no matter
how much sleep she gets.”
“I know what you mean. She is
exactly the same.” Matt said nodding at Colleen as she yawned. “we better
get going. But we’ll see you in the morning.”
“Are we still going then?”
“Yeh we are…that is if you still
want to.”
Jeff paused. “Yeh I do.”
“Good. I know how much you have
been missed.”
“I missed them all too.”
Matt then hugged his brother. Jeff
then gave Colleen a hug and a kiss and watched her walk out with Matt.
Jeff sighed heavily. He was going
back to the place he ran from. The place where he had been so unhappy. The small
town of Cameron, North Carolina. He was going home.
Leah rolled over in the soft hotel bed. She rested her head on her hand and looked over at the clock. 3:26. She sighed and rested her head on Jeff shoulder. Leah then felt the softness of Jeff’s fingertips slowly moving over her back. She felt Jeff lift his head and look down at her. Leah looked up at him. She moved up his body further so her head lay on the pillow next to his. Nether of them said a word. They didn’t need too. Jeff held Leah tightly against him. Only she knew the real reason he left Cameron. She was the only one he wanted to know. They had no secrets from each other. Despite all of the arguments the bond between the two was strong. And no matter what they always knew they would be together. Always.
