Background: After joining the NFWA in May 2001, Tristram and brother Thunder were pegged as future stars in the NFWA...which made it that much more shocking when the duo jumped ship to the upstart Generation Next League a month later. Fed up with the NFWA's brand of entertainment, Tristram and his brother wanted to aide Johnny Gunn in his quest to bring wrestling back to the forefront. In August, Tristram made history when he and T Money met in an interfed match-up: the very first battle in the war between the NFWA and the GNL. That war continued well into the fall with the Universal Title tournament, which pitted the best stars of the NFWA and the GNL against one another in order to prove which of the two truly was "The Best Damn Fed in the Biz." In a stunning upset, Tristram defeated Rage in the Tournament final, becoming the first and only member of the GNL to hold the prestigeous title. The title reign was short-lived. Upon the realization that Johnny Gunn was taking credit for Tristram's title win, Tristram forfeited the title and left the GNL. Returning months later as a member of Scarlet KV's Black Blood faction, Tristram defeated Freak to become the final GNL World Champion before crossing over to the NFWA. There, he continued his success by teaming with T Money to become the NFWA Tag Team Champions, butwas forced to relinquish his half of the gold when he suffered and injury in January 2002. Upon his return, Tristram captured two NFWA Light Heavyweight Title, and at NFWA Showtime in June, he defeated the legendary Shark to become the final NFWA TV Champion. At Maximum Carnage 2002, Tristram teamed with Johnny Havok to regain the NFWA Tag Team Titles, and was later wed to girlfriend Darkest Desires.
