History

Our tale begins with the forging of the Great Rings. Powerful rings that had within them the power to rule each race. Three were given to the Elves, for they were wise, fair, and immortal.  Seven to the dwarves, who marveled at their creation, for they love gold and gems. Nine were given to the men, for they desire power more than all. But something had happened that they did not expect, for there is one more ring that was created. In the Land of the Shadow, deep in the fiery pits Mount Doom Sauron the Deceiver created a ring to control all other rings, a master ring. In it he poured his cruelty, his malice, and his will to dominate all life.  He bound himself to the ring and they became one.  One by one all the lands fell into the grasp of Sauron, and Middle-Earth was nearly destroyed. But all hope was not lost, for there was some who resisted this evil. They allied themselves to destroy Sauron. The Last Alliance, as it was called, of Men and Elves marched to Mordor, and fought for the freedom of all life.  Victory was near, but finally Sauron marched out and began to fight.  The King of Men was struck down, and killed.  His son, Isildur, ran to his father, but he was already dead. Isildur picked up his father's sword, but Sauron stepped on it and nearly destroyed it. The hilt of the sword and half the blade was left. When Sauron was making the final blow on Isildur, Isildur attacked Sauron's hand and cut the Ring from Sauron's hand. and Sauron, enemy of all the free people was destroyed. The Ring came to Isidur, and Elrond, the Elven leader, took Isildur to the heart of the mountain, to the one place the Ring could be destroyed, and told him to destroy it. But the hearts of men are easily corrupted. Isildur kept the ring for himself. Later Isildur was attacked by a band of wandering orcs, and he was slain. The Ring fell into the Great River Anduin, and there it was lost, and was forgotten about, for nearly, 1500 years. It was found by two strange creatures, Sméagol and Déagol was there name. They were best friends. One day they were near the river when Déagol noticed a glint of gold in the water. He picked it up and found a ring, not very fancy, but was pure gold and was so smooth and perfect, nice and round with out a scratch. Sméagol who was watching from afar came to Déagol and said, "Give me the ring." When Déagol asked why, Sméagol said because it was his birthday. But Déagol refused saying that he already gave Sméagol an expensive present and Déagol wanted the ring. Sméagol got angry and strangled Déagol to his death, and Sméagol took the ring. This shows that the ring corrupts all, making Sméagol kill his best friend. He put the ring on and went home, and to his surprise he noticed that no one could see him. His family noticed that he was acting peculiar, and to save him his Grandmother, the leader of the house,  sent him into exile. So Sméagol left, and traveled. He came across the Misty Mountain, and stayed there. And there the ring consumed him. For 600 years it poisoned his mind. The Ring decided to abandon his owner, so it left him. But something happened by accident that the Ring did not think about. It was picked up by a very strange creature. Bilbo Baggins from the Shire, a hobbit. Bilbo then met Gollum, Sméagol's name after the ring corrupts him, and is challenge to a game of riddles. If Gollum wins then He will eat Bilbo. If he loses then he must show the way out of the mountain. Eventually Bilbo wins, and escapes Gollum and the Misty Mountains. That is the story of how the ring comes to the Shire.
