Elrond

The lord of Rivendell.

Son of Earendil and Elwing, he was called Elrond Half-elven. In the War of the Ring he fought along side Gil-Galad (the elven leader) and they together, led the elves of the last alliance against the host of Mordor. After the defeat of Sauron and the death of Gil-Galad, Elrond left to the west and established one of the last elven refuges, Imladris (Rivendell, in the human speech). Perhaps Elrond's greatest accomplishment was his forming of the Fellowship of the Ring. In the third age, when Sauron was rising again, the Ringbearer (Frodo Baggins) came to Imladris. Elrond then held council in which he formed a fellowship of nine companions. In hope that they could find a way to Mordor were they could destroy the ring in the fires of Mount Doom. The fellowship was successful and the evil that was Sauron was destroyed, bringing an end to the third age. As the third age ended and the fourth age began, (the age of Man) Elrond, accompinied by Frodo Baggins, Bilbo Baggins, Gandalf, and Galadriel, left the mortal world of Middle-Earth and set sail from the Grey Havens. He was never seen in Middle-Earth again.
