After the Death of Turgon Gil-Galad, son of Fingon, became the last High King of the Noldor in Middle Earth. He remained in Lindon, the elven city, after the first age. When Sauron had forged the One Ring and began to enslave Middle-Earth Gig-Galad and Elendil led the Last Alliance of Elves and Men against the forces of Sauron. The army of the Last Alliance lay siege to Sauron for many years until finally Sauron him self left his strong hold and there, at the foot of Mount Doom Gil-Galad faced Sauron and was killed. Although Gil-Galad was dead, the Last Alliance was victorious. It was Isildur, son of King Elendil, who cut the Ring from Sauron's hand and destroyed him.
