Butterfly – Extra Information

WITHOUT THE STRUGGLE, THERE ARE NO WINGS.

Webster Dictionary defines struggle: A violent effort or exertion, strenuous efforts against opposition.

The metaphor of the Butterfly is wonderful for the actual insect itself and it's biological process, but not necessarily for human beings and our growth physically, emotionally, intellectually and/or spiritually. "Persistence and/or tenacity" as qualities the butterfly might teach us feels healthy, but not struggle as a first and healthy choice to pattern and program ones life's lessons that lead to our "wings of freedom/or enlightenment". I had a Spiritual teacher on my path that encouraged light and health, and often reminded us if we were struggling too hard to consider that we may be coming from our ego and not our highest and healthiest course (which often unfolds in an effortless manner).

A True BUTTERFLY Story

A friend I know once brought in two cocoons that were just about to hatch. She watched as the first one began to open and the butterfly squeezed very slowly and painfully through a tiny hole that it chewed in one end of the cocoon. After lying exhausted for about ten minutes following its agonizing emergence, the butterfly finally flew out the window on its beautiful wings.

My friend decided to help the second butterfly so that it would not have to go through such an excruciating ordeal. So, as it began to emerge, she carefully sliced open the cocoon with a razor blade, doing the equivalent of Cesarean section. The second butterfly never did sprout wings, and in about 10 minutes, instead of flying away, it quietly died. My friend asked a biologist friend to explain what had happened. The scientist said that the difficult struggle to emerge from the small hole actually pushes liquids from deep inside the butterfly's body cavity into the tiny capillaries in the wings, where they harden to complete the health and beautiful adult butterfly.
So then WITHOUT THE STRUGGLE, THERE ARE NO WINGS.

The key words to our Ulysses Butterfly are Transformation; Grace; Emerging; Whisper; Perfection & Fickle. Butterfly is card number 15 and vibrates to the numerology of number 6. The Number Six brings beauty and embellishments. The Number Six is the number that contains the seeds of all life, i.e. the storehouse, a provider and caretaker energy. It is the energy reflected in giving comfort; abundance, harmony, usefulness and all service related projects. It is the number that relates to the welfare and well being of others, therefore is a healing number. Responsibility is attached to this number's energy at all times and can give exhaustively.

Six is The Humanitarian... Colours of the six vibration are Orange, Henna, Mustard & Scarlet. Six represents equilibrium; harmony. It is the perfect number within the decade: 1+2+3=6. It is the most productive of all numbers. It symbolizes union of polarity, the hermaphrodite being represented by the two interlaced triangles, the upward- pointing as male, fire and the heavens, and the downward pointing as female, the waters and the earth. Six is the symbol of luck; love; health; beauty & chance. It is a winning number at the throw of the dice in the West. There are six rays of the solar wheel and there are six interlaced triangles. There are six pointed stars or Seal of Solomon. Six also represents perfect balance.

Our Butterfly is depicted sitting on a globe of golden light surrounded by cobalt blue. Cobalt blue is the colour of protection and our Butterfly has been drawn to the pure golden light of enlightenment for its transformation.

The Rune symbol depicted on Butterfly is the rune ‘Inguz’ for the end of a cycle of events to bring about new beginnings. The Rune of fertility and the intuitive part of our nature. The harbinger of a new path. This is a rune of great power and signals your emergence from a closed chrysalis state.

The Medicine

The medicine of Butterfly is Transformation and Grace. Butterfly conjures up a vision of grace as it flitters on wings of gossamer touching here and there, ever so gently on its flight to feed and cross pollinate life. Butterfly’s transformation occurs as it changes from egg to larvae, to pupa to butterfly. Allowing change to take place Butterfly ensures its new growth, changing from stage to stage until it achieves a state of perfection and grace. This occurs time and again with ease, never a struggle is had. Butterfly reflects how humanity should be. We need to learn how to transform our lives from stage to stage, bringing in change with open arms, allowing ourselves to open our hearts and accept new growth, so that we may some day achieve perfection and grace.
